HOPE@MotoFest "a roaring success"
(Coventry Telegraph 4th June)
Thanks to many volunteers, we enjoyed a great weekend providing kids' activities, biscuit decorating, balloon models, face painting and car drawing for 200+ children over 2 action-packed and noise filled days. Busy and bustling throughout, everyone dived in and helped in giving our Coventry children and their parents a good experience for which all were grateful. Even our shaded area was a blessing.

Conversations were had with many people, expressing our love for the city and letting people know about church projects. The sponsorship of HOPE Arena was successful, with over 250 people attending the church service on the Sunday of MotoFest. Various leaders from city churches joined together to lead the congregation in worship and a distinctive prayer of blessing being spoken over Coventry on the day.

Make sure you check out the photos of the weekend, and don't forget to tag yourself in them too!

So: the churches of the city showed our love for the people and thousands now recognise the name of HOPE Coventry, as we seek to demonstrate the love of Jesus and grow a connected church for the benefit of the city. Roll on HOPE@MotoFest 2019!

Coventry Prayer House - clean with a prayerful heart!

The Prayer House (5 Priory Row, CV1 5EX) has revamped its leaflets for summer - you can download one here, or contact them if you would like some printed for your church or group. It is a fabulous peaceful oasis of retreat in a busy city.

They are also holding a Spring Cleaning Day of both work and fellowship this Saturday 16th June from 10am-3pm. The day will start with Celtic style Morning Prayer at 10am; then housework; stop briefly at 12.00 for Midday Prayer; more housework until 1.30-2pm, followed by a shared lunch, provided by them. Tasks include window cleaning, tidying notice boards, freshening the rooms and resources, cleaning, dusting, gardening etc. It's a good way to strengthen relationships, build community, and support the Prayer House practically. Please come along for just an hour - and why not bring a friend? RSVP via 07403 145350 or coventryprayerhouse@gmail.com.

Open the Book in Coventry schools

Open the Book is part of the Bible Society and works with local church teams to take interactive bible storytelling in to primary schools. There is a free interactive information session for clergy, children and family workers, congregation members, head teachers, teachers, RE coordinators and governors on Monday 2nd July from 10am-12pm at Lower Ford Street Church, CV1 5QJ. There will be an opportunity to experience an Open the Book act of collective worship/assembly and find out why head teachers and children value it - one Coventry Deputy Headteacher said, "The children always enjoy Open the Book assemblies. It is always very popular to be picked as an actor and the children enjoy taking part in the stories." To book a place, contact Katie via 01793 418355 or enquiries@openthebook.net.

Good Neighbours Coventry: the importance of having a destination

The Good Neighbours project's isolated elderly people benefit hugely from the dozens of groups run by churches across the city to give them a reason to leave the house. One such new project is the Community Lunch at Christ the King (CTK), which first took place on Monday 4th June and was a great success, with over 150 people attending.

The initiative was arranged by members of CTK pastoral care group and included a hot 2 course meal, music, a little dancing and a raffle, all to combat social isolation. Older people came from all over the City to attend this event. Following the Community Lunch's success, it will become a regular event, with the next one on 2nd July.

Helen from the Good Neighbours team went along to speak at the event about the befriending service HOPE Coventry offers. CTK are currently applying for a Good Neighbours group grant to sustain this as a monthly event. If your church reaches older people in the community, then get in touch for a grant of up to £1500.
Good Neighbours volunteer celebration

If you are an existing volunteer, please do come along - we want to thank you! RSVP to volunteercelebration@ hopecoventry.org.uk by 22nd.
