Operating in the Okanagan since 1966, the Starbright Children's Development Centre in downtown Kelowna has offered services to families with children who have special needs. The centre works with children as young as infants and as old as thirteen-years-old in a variety of programs that include occupational therapy, speech langauge therapy, and an autism program. For more information on their programs and where your child may fit, please give them a call.

With the Special Olympics coming to a close last month in Los Angeles, California, a renewed interest in accessible sports seems to have followed in its wake. The Kelowna branch of Special Olympics British Columbia (SOBC) is eager to get started on its programs, and while their fall registration date was August 30, there's still an opportunity to signup for programs that aren't yet full. SOBC offers a variety of winter, summer, and year-round sports for eager athletes as well as several youth programs.

For more information about registration and programs, please email SOBC at Info@SOBC-Kelowna.org.

September always means the start of school, and this year many students are heading back to university courtesy of Steps Forward. Steps Forward is an organization that helps students with developmental disabilities pursue post-secondary education. They work with the student before they go to one of their six partnered universities as well as during their time on campus.

Spots in universities for Steps Forward participants can be limited. For more information, please fill out the request form on the Steps Forward website.
