Discover Canberra's Wine District

Canberra’s cool climate wine region, home to 140 vineyards and more than 30 cellar doors, is located within 35 minutes’ drive of Canberra, making it perfect for a partners program, incentive or delegate social activity.
 
Dotted in all directions around Canberra, you can set off from the suburb of Pialligo to the neighbouring districts of Hall, Murrumbateman, Bungendore, Wamboin and Lake George. The wineries are small and intimate, where you can still meet the winemaker, yet the region is large enough that you will find a range of grape varieties. The area has made its mark on the wine map with its Shiraz and Shiraz Voigner blends, as well it’s Riesling. In fact, Australian wine critic, James Halliday, named 12 Canberra District vineyards among his best wineries of the region in his Australian Wine Companion 2017 edition. 

Q & A...Sam Sefton on Canberra

Samantha Sefton, our Director of Business Development - Sydney, shares her insights on Canberra and why its a great place to host your next conference or incentive.

What's new in Canberra?
The evolving food and wine scene is a real highlight. There's a focus on using local produce from the surrounding regions and there's something for every taste and budget - from hatted restaurants to bars and street food trucks. The new, direct international flights to Singapore and Wellington are providing access to new markets and delegates, with more options coming on line in 2018 when Qatar Airways arrives in Canberra.

Best thing about your job?
When I meet with clients I have a great story to tell about Canberra, which makes my job easy! Canberra is a city on the move, with new hotels, restaurants and venues constantly emerging. For meeting planners, learning about these new products and experiences raises awareness of what's possible for their next event.

Advice to event planners?
Plan a trip to Canberra! You'll be amazed at the range of options available for conference and incentives - venues, hotels and social activities - to suit all sizes and budgets. Plus Canberra's growing events calendar offers great pre and post touring options. Contact me for more information.

Canberra's Hotel Stock Set To Rise

Canberra based Abode Hotels have announced two new properties for Canberra. Midnight will be the centrepiece of a mixed use project in the inner city entertainment precinct of Braddon. In South Canberra, close to the parliamentary triangle, a new 61 room Abode Hotel will be constructed adjacent to the restaurant precinct in the leafy suburb of Kingston.

TFE Hotels is also set to expand in Canberra. A new Adina Grand Apartment Hotel Canberra will be part of a AUD$300 million multi building development in the city centre. The apartment hotel will be designed by architects Bates Smart, who designed the stunning Vibe Hotel Canberra Airport, which has won a number of architectural awards since opening in 2015.

Mantra Group will open a new full service hotel later this year as part of a new master planned mixed-use precinct in the inner city suburb of Turner. The property will be known as Mantra Macarthur and will offer a mix of 136 hotel rooms and 40 suites across eight accommodation levels, as well as bespoke conferencing facilities.
