Welcome to our Summer Newsletter 2015

A message from our new Chief Executive,
My welcome to Canberra has been one full of unanticipated surprises, warm hospitality and new experiences. After many years working overseas in other destinations I’m thrilled to discover the amazing transformation that has taken place in the nation's capital. Innovation, culture, remarkable hotels and venues, and a sense of pride to live in Canberra are all readily evident. In my short time here I have discovered you can sleep with tigers, host an event at one of Australia’s most significant memorials, and float above Parliament House in a hot air balloon with your conference group. I'm excited to share some of these experiences and the beauty of the region with you, and look forward to welcoming you to Canberra for your next event.

Michael Matthews
Chief Executive

Top Secret 2016

There’s no better way to discover Canberra and everything it has to offer for your next business event. Top Secret is our annual familiarisation program designed for conference decision makers considering Canberra for a future event. This fully hosted program is an opportunity to discover why Canberra is a brilliant meetings destination, through a combination of site inspections, networking and dining events. To find out more and if you qualify to attend, contact Deepti Choudhary, Business Development Manager.

Australian Institute of Sport

With its first class sporting infrastructure, spread of parks and reserves, walking trails and cycle ways it’s easy to see why Canberra has a strong sporting culture.  Lake Burley Griffin is a popular venue for water sports, in particular, sailing, rowing, sailboarding and canoeing, with national competitive events regularly taking place on and around the lake. The Australian Institute of Sport is based here and organisations can take advantage of exceptional expertise and facilities when holding events there. Canberra has a brand new $27 million tennis centre, while just outside the city are a maze of trails offering some of the best mountain biking around.

Many top sporting events have chosen Canberra as their destination, including the FIH Masters Hockey World Cup for 2016 and the Under 19 Road Cycling Championships in 2016 and 2018. Contact Brendon Prout to find out how to bring your sporting event to Canberra.

Social Media Tactics

Tracking ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’ is easy but what does it tell you about how successful your event is or if you have achieved your social media goals? Set some simple targets to help you measure success:
  1. Number of shares or retweets per post. Second and third degree connections will help you amplify your message, expand your audience and marketing reach
  2. Number of comments and replies per post. Conversation between your followers gives you valuable information about your audience, and their perception about your event and brand
  3. Number of Likes and Favourites per post. These endorsements from your audience will give you more insight about your customers and what they value.
