Another Successful Kansas PF/QF State Convention
The State Convention kicked off with great start on Friday, March 13th. This year everything was held out at the Marriott in Wichita, Ks. The partners in conservation reception started on Friday night where hors d'oeuvres were served, and raffles were held. This was a great time so relax and socialize with a little more than 70 people attending consisting of PF/QF Chapters, KDWPT, NRCS, and landowners present.
Starting on Saturday morning was a great line up of group sessions. There was highlights for PF/QF in Kansas, given by Steve Riley, the PF/QF Regional Director. Next was “Recommitting to Forever” by our very own, President and CEO, Howard Vincent. Following we had “Musings from the Flint Hills” from Richard McCabe, “Sharing a Passion for Wildlife and the Outdoors” from Theresa Vail, and “Current Status of Pheasants & Quail in KS” from Jeff Prendergast. Then Jerry Valdez shared a personal experience with youth & safety, and Jordan Martincich ended the group session with PF/QF Kansas Habitat Fund Celebration. There was a total of 79 people attending with chapters, KDWPT, NRCS and landowners.
In the afternoon there was breakout sessions held in groups of three, a topic on youth, wildlife/habitat, and chapter related, giving the guests to choose which topic they would like to attend. Brian Schaffer, Holly Shutt, Jared Austin and Mike Miller all talked about youth related topics of mentored hunts, youth pollinator and the fundamentals of wing shooting. Then Jeff Predergast, Dale Strickler, Dean Krehbiel, Gail Fuller, and Randy Rodgers covered habitat topics on bird management, cover crops, and wheat stubble management for nesting pheasants. Then Steve Riley, Bill Vonderschmidt, Shayne Wilson, and Brian Esslings gave talks on increasing the success of your Chapter.
Then to end things with a bang was the Grand banquet. Starting off was cocktails, games and a silent auction. After dinner was an award ceremony for the KS Hal of Fame, Landowner Awards and Chapter Awards, the reciprocants are listed below. Then live auction, silent auction and raffle drawings to close the night. We had a max attendance for the state convention show up to the banquet with a total of 99 participants.
