Community Enrichment Presentation

We started a new monthly series, Community Enrichment Nights

Why attend the Autism Society’s monthly community enrichment evenings?

They provide opportunities for individuals, families, caregivers and educators to learn what is available in their community, how to advocate or access specific services, and network as a community. The programs provide all attendees with information, additional support, and networking opportunities to improve the lives of individuals who experience autism and related developmental disabilities.

Location: Hamme Pool
Time: 5-7 p.m
Description: Sensory Swim nights are sponsored by the Alaska Center for Children and Adults in-part through a grant from Alaska USA and are open to families who are supporting children who experience disabilities that increase their sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as autism, sensory processing disorders and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. A light meal will be served, and parents will have the opportunity to network with one another in a welcoming setting.
Project Lifesaver
Fairbanks Chamber: Danielle Tessen from the Autism Society of Alaska and Captain Ron Wall from the Alaska State Troopers presenting on Project Lifesaver, a program that provides traceable wristbands to adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer's, autism, and other related conditions or disorders.
Nationwide, Project Lifesaver has responded to over 3,000 rescues and all were 100% successful with a recovery time averaging less than 30 minutes.

How it works
  • Project Lifesaver relies on proven radio technology and specially trained search and rescue responders.
  • Clients that are enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program wear a personalized wristband that has the appearance of a large watch.
  • When caregivers notify the Alaska State Troopers that a person is missing, they respond to the wanderer’s last known location and start searching with the mobile locator tracking system.
  • This equipment is used on foot, in cars and also by air providing maximum cover and capability for search efforts for several miles using the tracking equipment.
