Community Involvement Opportunities
Data Community DC is pleased to announce American University as a DC2 Sponsor as they roll-out their new Masters of Science in Data Science. Admission to the MS in Data Science requires an undergraduate degree with a 3.0 or better (any major, no GRE). AU provides a math bootcamp to help students fill in an any needed mathematics for the program that they may not have received (or may not remember) from their previous college work. The initial courses assume only a knowledge of introductory statistics and then ramp the student up to acquire strong technical skills. The student will choose an application track in order to specialize in applying the skills learned in the technical core to one application area. Current tracks include applied public affairs, business analytics, computer science, economics, and environmental science. Tracks in progress for next year are International Service, Marketing, and Investigative Journalism. For more informationclick here.
O'Reilly OSCON Call for Speakers is Open! | Apply to speak by 11:59 pm PST on January 15
OSCONis four action-packed days of practical training in leading-edge software development incorporating AI, cloud technology, and distributed computing. Join as a presenter to share your best practices, case studies, or deep technical knowledge and help shape the future of software. No need to be a seasoned speaker or an industry insider to add your voice to the OSCON program. Here are a few ideas to consider when creating your proposal: Emerging open source projects are at the heart of software development. Cloud-native development allows open source to thrive. Data Society is giving away a data science communicator toolkit to help data scientists better communicate with their managers and colleagues. You can learn more about it by clicking here. We're asking for data scientists to take a5-minute surveyto make sure that the toolkit will be as useful as possible. In return, you'll be the first to receive the toolkit when we release it in the upcoming weeks. We're really excited to help other data scientists bridge the data literacy gap - I encourage you to take the survey or pass it to anyone who you think would be interested in receiving these materials.

Your personal connection to 25K Local Data Practitioners
Statistical Programming DC is a meetup that loves code. We cover everything from data munging, machine learning, numerical and scientific computing to data visualization using open source tools with a heavy emphasis on R and Python. Our meetups focus on practical tips and tricks in performing tasks with these programming languages.
Statistical Seminars is a meetup group focused on providing awareness about of different statistical methods using free statistical programming software. We also support other Meetups and organizations with the same goals. Our events are free and typically occurs every month.
DSDC is the flagship meetup for DC2. We meet monthly for lectures on topics in data science and then retire for data drinks at a local watering hole. Many of our lectures are focused on models and algorithms, but we also hold talks on applications of data science or other topics of interest.
NOVA Deep Learning is a group for anyone interested in meeting to discuss Data Science, Machine Learning, Big Data, Data Analytics, Big Data Analytics Data Visualization, Predictive Analytics, Open Data, Tableau, Python, Apache Spark, and other topics related to Data Science. All skill levels are welcome. I started this group to meet other data enthusiasts. Looking forward to exploring data with everybody. Follow us on twitter @novadatascience (https://twitter.com/novadatascience).
The Full Stack Data Science Meet-up is oriented towards promoting a “full stack” approach bringing much needed integration to the data science conversation across multiple disciplines ("defragging" data science, so to speak) and how to deploy data science capabilities at enterprise scale. We meet in the Tysons Area approximately every other month.
WDSDC is a meetup for women who are data scientists, women who want to be data scientists, and supporters of women in data science. We have monthly meetups with content ranging from speakers to networking events.
Data Community DC is about all things Data Science and self Development. Every monthly meetups put some finishing touches on your data science knowledge base.
