Good Luck Soup: The American Experience Through Asian Eyes
Wednesday, March 18 at 7 pm at the Lakewood Main Public Library
For the Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Matthew Hashiguchi, growing up half Japanese, half Italian in a white Irish Catholic neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio, was an interesting and sometimes difficult experience. In Good Luck Soup, Hashiguchi sets out to discover how the rest of his multi-racial family made sense of their lives and their Japanese American heritage. Surprisingly, he finds a role model in his elderly Japanese grandmother, Eva, who lived through internment during World War II but now says, “I am Japanese, but my mind is modern and US, freedom.”

Pompei: Below the Clouds
Thursday, March 19th at 6:30 pm at Cinematheque
Naples is a city forever marked by the looming presence of Mount Vesuvius. Beneath the quiet threat of eruption, people go about their days, archaeologists unearth the past, children learn as the earth hums, firefighters wait for the next call. The result is a portrait at once local and universal, a reflection on humanity’s capacity to live, love, and rebuild in the shadow of the unimaginable.

What's New(s) In Israel?
Friday, March 20th, 11 am–12:30 pm edt at the Landmark Centre Building, Beachwood
In Israel, no moment is a dull moment - something new is always happening, whether in national security or political realities, recent legislation proposals and key Supreme Court cases, changing coalitions and new governments. What do these events mean for people inside Israel? And what do they mean for American Jewry, and for American-Israeli relations? Israeli-born Professor Kalir will take us on a quick trip through Israel's current national and international affairs, leaving plenty of room for questions and answers. Join Siegal Lifelong Learning for this in person lecture offered by Doron Kalir, Senior Clinical Professor of Law at Cleveland-State University College of Law.

Now through Sunday, December 6th, 2026 at the Cleveland Museum of Art
For the first time, view a permanent display of gold and silver jewelry from across the African continent on view in the collection galleries of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Admire a selection of glittering ornaments from the Akan states of West Africa, shimmering gemstones from the Maghreb region, hair accessories from ancient Egypt in Northern Africa, and the bold silver of five recently gifted Ethiopian necklaces from East Africa. Spanning thousands of years, these works testify to the depth of African creativity, the skill of jewelers on the continent, and the eternal human desire for adornment.
