TRAINING FORM - Heather Ashley
Are you a new member? ...Do you want to join in on team events but don't have a clue how to?

So for your information here's how it all works relating to our BRC Area 17 Qualifiers...

Area 17 comprises of 23 Riding Clubs which run Winter and Summer Qualifiers covering 'ALL' disciplines.  Each club will take a turn in running a Qualifier too.

Chilworth Riding club consists of 130 members and is managed by a team of 10 volunteer committee members, who meet monthly in order to organise events for you all.
The Winter series running from October to April, starts with the Novice Dressage, Intermediate Dressage, Novice & Intermediate Level Show Jumping, the Festival of the Horse Combined Training, Festival of the Horse Eventers Challenge.

Then the Summer series continues with Horse Trials,  Dressage to Music, Show Jumping and Style Jumping, Summer Dressage and Riding Test.

Each Qualifier has a Championship and as an example the Novice Dressage and Show Jumping Champs will be held in Grantham this year.  The Intermediate Dressage and Show Jumping held at Bury Farm, the Festival of the Horse held at Aston Le Walls,  the Summer Horse Trials Champs held at Swalcliffe,  the Summer Dressage and Show Jumping held at Lincoln Show Ground and the Dressage to Music held at Bury.   More detailed information about dates can be found on our own website, or on the Area 17 website.  Dates are also found on the last page of our Newsletter.

If you have an interest to ride and compete at one of these Qualifier events, all you need to do is look out for, and complete the Registration of Interest form, which we publish in our Newsletters a couple of months before each event.

The form asks for you to mention your recent successes, information about your horse, and the name of your best friend or family member who can volunteer their help at one of the many events held throughout the year.

Some immediate and important information to note for all you new members:-

1) Is your horse up-todate with flu/tetanus vaccinations?
2) Is your Riding hat compliant with 2018 BRC regulations?
3) Do you or your horse have points which may restrict you riding in certain classes?

For more information on this, refer to our BRC handbook which can be found on the following links :-

So what happens next  ....

You send your completed Registration of Interest form to the Chef d'equipe (Team Manager) for that particular qualifier, who will make contact with you and inform you of what is required.  You then put in lots of practice at one or more of our clinics, you turn up on the day of competition, have fun, laugh a lot and do your best.

If one of our Chilworth teams qualifies, you will be notified by the Team Manager,  as we will be invited by the BRC head office to represent our club at the relevant Championship.

The commitment we ask from you is that you cover the cost of your entry (at cost) and where possible you provide a volunteer to assist on the day (and/or at other events) for a couple of hours, and you wear a Chilworth RC saddle pad, (can be purchased) or cross country shirt (provided).

There's no favouritism, anyone who is willing to comply with the above, will be included.  At some Qualifiers there are Individual placings and opportunities as well as team placings, so double chances to win ribbons!!!
We don't like anyone having unanswered questions, so please please just ask your Chef d'equipe whose name, mobile and email will be found on each Registration of Interest form.

Intermediate Dressage Qualifier
The Intermediate Dressage Qualifier will be held at Cofton on 24th March 2018.  Chef d'equipe for this will be Caroline Marsh.  Please see below our Registration of Interest form for this Qualifier,  for download and completion.   Each team will made up of  1x Prelim, 2x Novice and 1x Elementary Rider.   Team riders will automatically be entered as Individual competitors too.   There will also be Individual entries into the Medium and Advanced Medium level tests, so something for everyone!

Calling all CRC members interested in representing our club on the Combined Training Qualifier this Easter ..GOOD FRIDAY 30th March 2018 at Crofton EC.  We are looking for teams & Individuals able to compete at prelim & novice dressage level and jumping heights of 75cm or 85cms.

Each team will comprise of 2x riders riding the BRC HT90Q dressage test/75cms SJ and 2x riders riding the BRC HT100Q dressage test/85cms SJ.

To show your interest please download and complete the form from the boxed link below, and send it off to Chef d'equipe Nikki McGhie as soon as possible.

Report of Dog Show @ Manor Farm Equestrian Centre 7th January 2018- by Karen Morton
Our first event of 2018 was a fun dog show.  I was slightly concerned prior to the event as we had not received any entries, but had quite a few people saying they were interested on Facebook so had my fingers crossed for the week before.

Thankfully people started to arrive soon after 12pm and we proceeded to have an absolute hoot watching all the dogs having a great time along with their handlers.

Juliette Gerrard very kindly offered to help at the event and was a brilliant super secretary/organiser.  Caroline Marsh kindly stewarded the Dog Agility & kept it all running smoothly, and our lovely judge for the day was Mrs Alison Brown.

A special thank you to Gill Woodthorpe for taking such fab photos which she has shared on the CRC Facebook page and to everyone who came to support or take part or both.

All results are listed on the link box below.

Hopefully you will have already seen the recent press release regarding hat tagging for 2018 onwards.  BRC, BE and PC will be tagging with the same AQUA coloured tags for 2018. This means that each of the three member bodies will accept each other’s tag – thus reducing the need for separate tags for each organisation. New aqua tags have been sent to all BRC Official Stewards and if you would like your hat tagged please see Gary Hammond or Nick Fincham at your earliest convenience.

Remember from 1 January 2018, only BETA 2009 purple labels will be accepted. There is one exception to this – Exo Body Cages are only compliant with BETA 2000 purple label, but they will continue to be allowed. See the attached guide for further information.

Dear Members,

We are excited to announce our new XC training clinics commencing early March 2018.  We will be using the wonderful new training venue at Pucknall Farm, Braishfield  which has a variety of jumps. There are ditches, trakener's, hanging logs, a sunken road, corners, a water complex plus more. There is also a superb SJ / arena XC schooling area on a surface which is a great way to warm up.

Due to recent feedback, a lot more smaller fences have been added to make the facility attractive to beginners right through to advanced riders.
We have been lucky enough to secure Sophie Damment as our instructor.
Sophie is an event rider and an experienced coach, she is very knowledgeable and experienced in training young event horses. From personal experience and reputation Sophie is patient, kind, fun and encouraging, all the qualities needed for an excellent experience.
Initially to get the programme off the ground we will be offering two types of group sessions: one for those at grass root level wishing to perhaps ride their first Horse Trial Qualifier this summer and one for those who already compete up to 90cms and wish to improve and practice their technique.
The sessions will run for 90mins in a group of 4 (max). The cost per horse £45.00 payable in advance, to secure your place.
If the demand is there, we will also cater for those competing at BE 100 (+) so please state your preference.
All we now need your input as to the best time and days to run these training clinics. As the nights get lighter we could do evenings or weekends depending on what you, the members want?

Please email me ASAP with your suggestions at

I need to know the height you want to compete at, a brief description of your XC experience todate and what day/time would best suit you.

Please let me know ASAP so that I can get on with organising it all.

Best wishes and I look forward to hearing from you all soon #excitingtimes
