NASHVILLE, TN - Greetings & Salutations to one and all, and welcome to the Crowned Heads Royal Report, Vol. 16.

As I'm sitting here in my office composing this Royal Report, I'm enjoying a FOUR KICKS Robusto and having a bit of 'reflection.'  FOUR KICKS was the blend and the brand that started it all for Crowned Heads.  It seems like a lifetime ago that we launched FOUR KICKS, but in reality, we began shipping out the first boxes in November 2011--just over 2 short years ago.

Despite the advent of HEADLEY GRANGE, J.D. HOWARD RESERVE, and two very successful Limited Editions (FOUR KICKS MULE KICK LE 2012 and HEADLEY GRANGE DRUMSTICK LE 2013), FOUR KICKS will always hold a special place in my heart.  It was the first blend we worked with Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, Jr. on, and it was the genesis of a great friendship that we share with him to this day.  Working with Ernesto and Tabacalera La Alianza has enabled us to 'carve our own path,' and the opportunity to translate our philosophy towards the craft of cigar-making into our own unique brands.

Earlier this week, Cigar Aficionado announced a new upcoming Crowned Heads project called, "LAS CALAVERAS EDICION LIMITADA 2014."  That announcement created quite a 'buzz' for us, as we were immediately inundated with phone calls, emails, text messages, and tweets, expressing interest in LAS CALAVERAS.  We currently have a fairly lengthy 'wait list' from retail partners across the country, lining up to purchase LAS CALAVERAS.  What makes this project particularly interesting is that it is a collaboration between Crowned Heads and the Garcia Family (My Father Cigars, Esteli, Nicaragua), and marks the first time that Crowned Heads will have a cigar produced outside of La Alianza.

First off, we are extremely honored and privileged to be working with the Garcia Family on this project.  They truly are a force within the premium cigar industry, as evidenced by their recognition for receiving 'The #1 Cigar of 2012" from Cigar Aficionado magazine (Flor de las Antillas Toro).  Secondly, we are extremely fortunate to continue working with Ernesto and Tabacalera La Alianza not only on our existing three brands, but on other new projects coming for 2014, as well.  Having the opportunity to work with not one--but two--industry giants is a dream come true and a real blessing for us here at Crowned Heads.

So WHY a different manufacturer for LAS CALAVERAS?  Indulge me, and allow me to explain with another 'music-related' analogy.  Imagine you're a band and you've released three successful albums--all recorded with a producer who's respected and recognized as among the best.  Then, you have the opportunity to create a new album working with a different, but equally skilled, producer.  That new album is going to have a completely different sound and feel to it.  In fact, the same song can be recorded using two different producers, and the final recording will more than likely result in a different sound or 'vibe.'  As I told Gregory Mottola (Cigar Aficionado) when we were discussing the LAS CALAVERAS project, "It's like we've been able to release three albums produced by Rick Rubin, and now we are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work on a new record with Pharrell Williams."  LAS CALAVERAS EDICION LIMITADA 2014 will mark the advent of a completely different 'sound' for Crowned Heads. But suffice it to say, we look forward to making 'beautiful music' with both My Father Cigars, as well as Tabacalera La Alianza for years to come.

In case you missed it, here is the Cigar Aficionado Exclusive that ran earlier this week:

Oh...and yeah...Mike and I did a short 'one-take-and-done' video for our YouTube channel where we discuss LAS CALAVERAS, and the meaning behind it--you can check it out here:
