Tarot tales from Newtown, Sydney, with a brief mention perhaps, of chai and other fascinating things.

Welcome to the New Year everyone! I hope your entry to the year has been smooth. I finished my 10-Day meditation course at the Vipassana Meditation Centre in Blackheath early in the morning on December 31. It was a perfect way to finish up the year, and to prepare for 2015.

New Year's Eve saw me still at the meditation centre, having supper with other meditators, listening to a discourse and then meditating into the new year, from 11pm until midnight. I was surprised to stay awake (mostly!) after my 4am start that day.

I've been back at work since Sunday January 4 for my usual Sunday to Thursday week and have been enjoying meeting with new and old clients alike. This time of year is usually very busy for me, and this year is no exception. Heads up - those Sunday appointments, and the later appointments on the weekdays, fill quickly. Whilst it's always worth calling/emailing/texting me on the day you want an appointment, as sometimes a space does open up, it's probably best to book in advance!

On Saturday I did tarot readings at two different hens' parties. The first was in the early afternoon at Reservoir Gardens in Paddington (pictured above). I had been wanting to visit this park for a while so I was very happy to have the opportunity to sit in this serene place whilst doing readings for lovely people! It was an extremely hot day on Saturday (as you Sydney-siders will recall) and the parasol was necessary to protect me from that blaring sun!

The second event was at a private home in the Inner West, later in the afternoon. It made for a very pleasant work day, going from one lovely venue to another, with time for a late lunch at Iku on Oxford St in between.

I will be away from Thursday January 22 for a short break for one week. I'm off on a road trip down to Melbourne to attend the Rainbow Serpent Festival. That will involve spending a few days camping and dancing in Lexton, Victoria, and then a few days art gallery-hopping and eating delicious food with friends in Melbourne and then back to Sydney via the South Coast road. I'll be back to work for my usual Sunday to Thursday week starting on Sunday February 1.

Read on for the Tarot Card of the Month ~ The Two of Swords :-)
Tarot Card of the Month ~ The Two of Swords
For those who are reading this newsletter for the first time, every month I talk about the tarot card that appears the most in the month's tarot readings. Even though the cards will always have individual significance, a commonly occurring card can also have a say about what's going on for the whole community.

Right from the get-go the Two of Swords proclaimed itself as card of the month. Never before have I seen a tarot archetype so eager to get my attention. I think I may have seen this in every reading! Or at least 97% of readings since I got back to work this year.

The Two of Swords asks us to pause, and weigh things up carefully. Now is not the time to be swayed by others nor to consider plans that may not be in our best interest.

The Two of Swords makes it easier for us to say no to the pressure and request more time from those who are insisting that we give them an answer RIGHT NOW!

And when an answer comes, with this archetype in town it is likely to be an answer that will provide careful nurturance of our own psyches.

And now, on to the Two of Swords images I've selected from my tarot collection to have a word with you themselves about how they can help us this month.

The Two of Swords from Stella's Tarot by Stella Kaoruko & painted by Takako Hoei says, "I know I am blindfolded but I can hear and feel much better this way.

Stand with me in confidence of the wisdom that will surely arise when you give yourself space to consider all angles".

The Two of Swords from Alchemical Tarot: Renewed by Robert M Place says, "Don't back away from the tension, it is good for you! Just because you don't know what will happen next, doesn't mean everything will fall apart.

With me on your side you have a better chance of using your smarts to uncover the best way forward."

The Two of Swords from the Tarot of the Cat People by Karen Kuykendall says, "Just hold the swords and relax okay? Don't let people bully you in any way and certainly don't let them make you believe that your life has got to be difficult.

Time with me keeps you poised and in control of your mind. You are more capable in this moment than you give yourself credit for. Onward and upward!"

'Til next month...

Cheerio & best wishes,
Sarah Barry (Psychic Sarah)
