The Honolulu City Auditor recently released the “2019 Honolulu Community Livability Report,” which stated among other alarming findings that just over half of Honolulu residents had a positive view of their quality of life on Oʻahu.
This report doesn’t surprise me, and I know it doesn’t surprise you or any of the hardworking people of Oʻahu. The Oʻahu we love is slipping away, no matter how much our families sacrifice to survive lower wages and a higher cost of living. It is no wonder that people are losing confidence in government.
Politicians and their friends in power benefit from keeping things the way they have always been. They feel no urgency to address runaway housing costs, climate change, the break down of our communities, or any other issue that has been crushing our quality of life for decades.
Our campaign is the only campaign offering a new direction.
I started this campaign for mayor by talking to the friends I made through high school sports, community service, and local business. Since then, I’ve been introduced to thousands of people across Oʻahu who have taught me about their hopes and struggles. I know we can solve the big problems if we can come together and be brave enough to move in a new direction. We can’t rely on the same talking heads anymore. It’s time for the next generation of leaders to step up.
