Nungalinya eNews - September 2020

Dear Karen

The view from the classroom

Diploma of Translating
The students in the Diploma of Translating course are now half-way through their course! In this block of study, they have been reading, writing and discussing the exciting story of Jonah in two languages; their own languages and English. One student said that their favourite part was writing a short story about Jonah in their own language to take home. The class also did two fun-filled dramas as part of their chapel presentations about Jonah and the message it communicates. The students discussed what Jesus has to say about Jonah in the New Testament.

Foundation Studies - Men's class!
This month we are trialling a Men’s Class in Foundation Studies. The theme is the Life of Peter and the Early Church and we are looking through stories from the Gospels and Acts where Peter is shown in many different ways. He was a brave and insightful disciple of Jesus, and yet also had doubts, fears and times of failure. He is very easy to relate to! So far we have concentrated on the call to leave his fisherman ways to become a fisher-of-people and have even had the chance to act out some of these stories at Casuarina Beach, aka the Lake of Galilee!

"Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

(Matthew 4:19)

Welcome, Ian and Jenny Wood!

Ian and Jenny Wood commenced at Nungalinya College at the start of this term. After some time of orientation, they are already commencing their roles teaching in the classroom!

"We’ve served in Anglican churches in Sydney in lots of different ways since the 1980s. Now we’ve come to the Northern Territory with CMS to teach at Nungalinya. Jenny is teaching Foundation Studies and Ian Certificate III and IV in Christian Ministry & Theology. We’re grateful for people in NSW and ACT praying for us and supporting us in this new venture, and for the friendly reception we’ve had at Nungalinya."

Welcome to the Nungalinya team, Ian and Jenny, it's great to have you aboard!

Thanks, Darwin City Council!

As part of the COVID-19 restrictions in place at the moment, we have needed to make some modifications to the way things happen here at the college. One of the challenges was access to drinking water! The solution was found in supplying all students with their own water bottle when they arrive at the College.
Thanks, Darwin City Council for supplying us with fantastic aluminium drink bottles for our students!
