2 Important updates

2.1 ESN Finland National Platform Jyväskylä Spring 2015

The National Platform Spring 2015 of ESN Finland was held in the belly button of Finland, in our sporty city Jyväskylä from the 27th of February till the 1st of March 2015.
We had 82 ESNers present in our NP, including one international guest – Matis Palm from Estonia. We had the pleasure to hear Matis’ presentation about ESN Estonia.

The most important topics were the elections of the National Board 2015-2016, discussions about the National Events and the contracts with our partners. General Fund Guidelines and the overall project were also reviewed by the NP. The biggest difference to the previous NPs was that we started the meeting already on Friday with updates and workshops, which means that there were more workshops and small sessions than ever before.

The newly elected board 2015-2016 is:
  • President – Henry Rauhanen (ESN Fint)
  • Vice President – Mikael Männistö (ESN Aalto)
  • Treasurer – vacant
  • National Representative – Mikko Hyvärinen (ESN Jyväskylä)
  • National Section Coordinator – Pablo Guillerna Franco (ESN ISYY)
  • WPA – vacant
We have to have an extraordinary National Platform to elect the rest of the board in the beginning of April. The sections have been informed about this and the deadline to apply for the National Board is on the 26th of March at 20:00.

Once more thanks to our sponsors University of Jyväskylä and JAMK University of Applied Sciences which are the biggest higher education institutions in Jyväskylä. If you want to know more about the them, visit their web pages. Here's a little description what JAMK offers:
“JAMK University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) is a nationally and internationally accredited, multi-disciplinary institution of higher education. We offer education in eight fields of study and have over 30 degree programmes.

Our students value JAMK’s cooperation with hundreds of higher education institutions world-wide, international projects as well as active student and staff mobility. In fact, JAMK was awarded the Erasmus award for excellence by the European Commission in November 2013. JAMK received the first price out of 4500 higher education institutions.

We appreciate this honor and continue to support, encourage and enable both students and staff to create their international path and enjoy the benefits of internationalization.”

2.2 Pirates of the Baltic Sea Spring 2015

The Pirates of the Baltic Sea Spring 2015 cruise to Stockholm and back was held between the 15th and 17th of March. There were over a thousand international students on board and great performers from among the participants. The theme for the first night, as usually, was “pirates” and the theme for the second night was “Hollywood”. This time we had a lot of prizes for the competitions, e.g. several free cruises from TallinkSilja to Stockholm and Tallin, GLS Finland free parcel vouchers and Hard Rock Café t-shirt vouchers. There were other smaller prizes as well. The cruise went great and we had two photographers and a video guy on board. We’re expecting some spectacular shots from the cruise. Stay tuned. pobsevent.jpg

4 Section of the Month: ESN Lappeenranta

ESN Lappeenranta, founded in 2011, is the only ESN section in Lappeenranta. Third of Lappeenranta University of Technology’s students are exchange or degree students from abroad which makes the atmosphere quite international. There is a rather small (crazy) group of us in ESN organizing events but we are having a really good momentum at the moment and have organized successfully a lot of different events this year. We are definitely here to break the limits! We organize at least one to two events a week which is quite satisfying for us considering our size. Some of our most popular events include Finnish Evening and Ice Breaker Party. Language Tandem, our new addition, is getting popular too. We are trying constantly new things and planning different and exciting events to make our international students stay in Finland as great as possible.
