This Sunday's Ride

NBW #130 Cape Caper
Bourne - Monument Beach - Pocasset - Cataumet - Snug Harbor
North Falmouth - West Falmouth - Sippiwisset - Quissett
Woods Hole - WHOI - Falmouth - East Falmouth
Mashpee - Sandwich - Sagamore

25, 41 & 62 mile routes

Explore the Cape on quiet back roads. We will follow the Buzzard's Bay shore to Woods Hole, then on to Falmouth, heading back past ponds and pine woods, finishing with a run along the Cape Cod Canal. (**Please no pace lines here, and moderate your speeds**).

The recently revised 25 and 41 use the Shining Sea Bikeway. A little known fact is the Shining Sea Bikeway was named for a line in the song "America the Beautiful" written by Falmouth native Katherine Lee Bates
We schedule this ride to avoid heavy summer Cape traffic but still get great fall riding weather. Fall comes later to the Cape then elsewhere. The combination of tree foliage, salt marsh colors, and ocean is not to be missed.. The long ride crosses railroad tracks several times - take care on the acute-angled crossings. Routes have been updated by Ed Foster, our Cape Cod representative.

This route is a personal favorite, and everybody should ride it at lease once. It's a route the mixes beautiful riding, and spectacular views. Ignore the complexity of the map, follow the arrows and enjoy the Cape off season. Leave the power bars and gels at home. Bring your wallet and have the real stuff, baked from scratch, at Pie in the Sky Bakery at mile 22. You will not be disappointed. FYI - they have Gluten Free options. How many bakeries have bike racks and a bike pump ready for cyclists?

Arrowers - New Arrowers!

Bob Edgren

Mike Garrity

We have some new arrowers. Bob Edgren helped me arrow the 25 & 41 mile routes, and then finished the 62 mile route while showing Mike Garrity the ropes. Congratulations to both of them stepping up as new volunteers.

Bob & Mike reports that arrows are White and the first turn out of the parking lot is a right onto Waterhouse Rd.  Foliage and fall colors on the marshes should be at peak. The GPS address of the start is the Bourne Middle School, 77 Waterhouse Rd, Bourne, MA 02532

Note from Ted: Riders on the 41 and 62 mile ride might want to see Nobska Lighthouse, and then ride along the shore on the bike path. To do this follow the arrowed route past the Lighthouse, go about 7/10 of a mile, and then immediately after you pass under the bike path bridge go left up the dirt path to the bike path. Approximately 1.2 miles later you continue straight to return to the 41 mile route, or bear right onto Surf Dr for the 62 mile route
