This online event will feature
  • keynote speeches by Prof. Simine Vazire (University of Melbourne) and Dr Ineke Wessel (UG),
  • lighting talks about inspiring open research case studies from UG researchers,
  • and a panel discussion with researchers and funders about the use of modified lotteries in research funding.

NWO announces implementation guidelines for Plan S as of 1 January 2021
Plan S, an initiative of European research funders to accelerate the transition to open access, will apply to all new NWO calls published as of 1 January 2021. NWO announced how Plan S guidelines will be implemented in its grant rules. 

Other Plan S updates (summer 2020)
  • cOAlition S developed a “Rights Retention Strategy” which will enable researchers to retain sufficient intellectual ownership rights in their work to make the AAM open access at the time of publication with a CC BY license. 
  • ERC Scientific Council withdrew its support for Plan S. cOAlition S published a response to the statement. 
UCG and UGP team up to provide publishing experience for students
The University College Groningen (UCG) and the University of Groningen Press (UGP) entered a unique collaboration to give students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the publishing world and to publish high-quality work with a university press. The first three books have recently been published. > Read more 
Discount on publishing open access in MDPI journals
UG authors are now entitled to a discount when publishing open access in one of the 272 journals from publisher MDPI. Corresponding authors from the UG will receive a 10% discount on the article processing charge. > Read more
