Nungalinya eNews - May 2021

Dear <<First Name>>

Languages Workshop
Would you love to hear sermons and reflections on Genesis 1-15 from Indigenous Elders in twelve different Australian First Languages? Then you should have been at Nungalinya in April for the latest instalment of our ‘Languages Workshop’! During the fortnight, over 30 Elders joined together; from Groote Island in the east, to Tiwi in the north and Pukatja in the south, and most places in between. In the mornings we discussed chapters from Creation to Abraham, and in the afternoons, short messages on key passages were recorded in the various First Languages. It was a precious, unique opportunity and we pray that these recordings will be used for generations to come here at the College and further afield.

Faith & Family Course Started!

In breaking news, our ‘Faith and Family’ course has begun. Partnering with Tearfund Australia, this new initiative brings together key leaders to focus on building family well-being, coping with trauma and preventing domestic violence. For our first cohort, Elders from Wadeye, Maningrida and Ngukurr have joined and we praise God for this chance to wrestle with some of these profound issues that are impacting remote communities and to encourage the integration of traditional, cultural patterns and Scriptural paths for healing. These are deep, and at times, troubled waters, so please pray for His grace and protection over the teachers, the class of Elders and the local churches as they wrestle with issues of forgiveness and boundaries.

In Community Classes

We anticipate over 300 students will come into Nungalinya campus to study this year, which is amazing. However, there are always some who cannot attend intensive blocks in Darwin due to work or family commitments. So, last month we took class to community! Members of our Foundation Studies team visited Alice Springs and Gunbalanya for week long workshops. We focussed on an Old Testament Overview using the interactive cards and actions from ‘Walk Thru the Bible’ and the weeks were a great success.
