The End of Summer Edition

CCS’ Settlement and Education Partnership of Toronto team run an annual Summer Enrichment program for youth aged 14-18. This year, they staged a QuaranTEEN Media Camp, featuring a digital storytelling workshop. CCS Connects is happy to share a sneak peek at some of the kids’ work.  The world premiere launches in late September. Stay tuned.

CCS Garners Three Nominations for RBC Canadian Immigrant Awards

Voting kicked off for the 12th annual RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Awards on June 23, 2020, and CCS is right in the mix, picking up three nominations in the two award categories.
First, CCS was chosen as one of the shortlisted agencies for the Settlement Agency of the Year. Next, Agnes Thomas, Executive Director, and Sanga Achakzai, Employment Access Placement Facilitator, were chosen as two of seventy-five finalists in the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of the Year category. CCS Program Pivots to Support Newcomer Entrepreneurs During COVID

While there is no shortage of business resources for budding entrepreneurs in Toronto, it is challenging for newcomers, immigrants and refugees struggling with English to fully access them. A few months back, we ran a story on a unique CCS program, the Small Business Support Project, an Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada-funded initiative designed for individuals who have a lower level language proficiency to acquire basic English skills to overcome barriers to self-employment.
