2nd Edition ~ Nov. 2019
Welcome to the Drums & Wires Recordings Year-End Newsletter. And what a year it's been! We've grown our roster to more than 30 artists and over 80 titles, and each step of the way has been a delightful labor of love. None of this would be possible without the many artists who have joined the Drums & Wires family. We are beyond grateful to each of them.

In this edition we feature The Transmissionary Six who have been making sublime music for over 15 years and we are so proud to present their music on Drums & Wires. We're also pleased to announce that we just received more copies of their hard to find, vinyl-only anthology Selected Songs 2002-2012. The band turned to Chris Eckman to choose which ten favorites would make the album, the end result being an indispensable summation of this important band's work.

We're thrilled to be adding a few new artists to the D&WR catalog in the coming weeks: California based singer-songwriter Michael Shuler in December, and Chet Kane and Johnny Sangster in January, and you can hear selected songs from these artists right now, by clicking right here. And remember, if you like our Facebook page you'll be more likely to know about these and other new additions to the catalog right when they happen... so get on over there!

We have launched the Official Drums & Wires Spotify Playlist and we invite you to check it out and follow us there. And if you're wondering what's up with Drums & Wires embracing music streaming, read below for our philosophy on the good, the bad and the uglies of streaming music.

To celebrate the holiday season that is upon us, and to encourage you to consider giving the gift of Drums & Wires music to your friends and family (and strangers, too, if you feel so inclined), every title in the catalog is discounted a massive, whopping 20% from now until 11:59pm PST on Monday, December 2nd, 2019. We're not announcing this sale on the website, in social media or anywhere else except this email.

Thanks for reading, we deeply appreciate your support.
The songwriting team of Terri Moeller and Paul Austin, the former a longtime drummer of The Walkabouts, the latter a founding member of the Willard Grant Conspiracy and guitarist for The Walkabouts during the Travels In the Dustland period. Between 2002 and 2013 the band - lead vocalist Moeller and guitarist Austin, augmented by a rotating cast of supporting musicians (with multi-instrumentalist Jon Hyde being one of the constants) - released six albums, appeared on numerous compilations, and toured worldwide.
Jon is a beloved Northwest-based musician who in addition to making his own solo records and playing pedal steel in his excellent country band 1 Uppers is always busy recording and performing with a wide variety of artists (The WalkaboutsThe Transmissionary SixGirl Singer and glimmer, to name a few), and there's one simple reason for that... he's a versatile and amazing musician.
From his formative days in the early-mid 1980's as songwriter and bandleader of Seattle band Pure Joy, a lysergic rock band in the vein of the UK's neo-psychedelic Teardrop Explodes, to his emergence as power punk pop contender first signed to Lisa Fancher's Frontier Records and then Epic Records fronting the formidable Flop in the '90s, and a whole bunch of solo records in recent years, Rusty Willoughby's prolificness is virtually unmatched among his peers.

In the past decade Willoughby's creative output has continued unabated, recording a spate of superb, mostly self-released solo and project albums.
Pure Joy (originally the Dwindles) were heavily influenced by the UK's preeminent  purveyors of new wave neo-psychedelia during that period, Teardrop Explodes (in fact taking their name from a Teardrop song) and to a lesser extent the post-punk pop of Chameleons U.K. with whom they would eventually tour. It's their British musical influences that mostly defined the group's sound, setting them apart from their Seattle musical peers at the time.

Led by the unabashedly loud and confident twin-guitar attack and slashing vocals of dual front-people Rich Brisbois (The Buckets, Acme Band, and more recently Lava) and Lisa Brisbois (known for her years spent in the ranks of Seattle's kick ass AC/DC tribute band Hell's Belles), 4 Hr. Ramona unleashed some of the most thoroughly exciting, unapologetic rock music to come out of Seattle that you've probably never heard.

From his virtuosic acoustic guitar playing to his evocative lyrics, and from his lively rhythms to his live performance story-telling, TLH is the complete package,a true folk artist.

Here are some words that Chris Eckman wrote to describe Terry Lee, a couple of decades ago:

"I met TLH in a Seattle bar called the Five-O Tavern. Terry Lee worked the bar and booked "indie" bands there on the weekends... we begged him to book The Walkabouts, and he did. He asked us to come see him play, and one night after rehearsal we took him up on his offer..."

Gin & Tillyanna

Drums & Wires Recordings is expanding beyond the cozy environs of Seattle and we couldn't be more thrilled to be adding our Portland, Oregon rock & roll friends Gin & Tillyanna to the catalog!

Tough, vulnerable... these are words that come to mind when describing the music of Jodi Birenbaum and her band Gin & Tillyanna. Comparisons to Chrissie Hynde and Pat Benatar are inevitable, but Birenbaum brings something more empowered to the table.

There continues to be a lot of debate about the quality of digital versus analog music, and streaming music brings out the most fervent opinions on either side of the argument, in large part because artists have historically had a difficult time getting paid fairly for their music when it's streamed.

As artists ourselves (Drums & Wires founder Michael Wells is bassist for The Walkabouts, Dodi, and glimmer), we take this issue very seriously. We have come to believe that in this day and age when the majority of music listeners are using streaming services to discover and enjoy music, it is important that the artists in our catalog that we believe so strongly in have a presence in these services so that they too can be discovered. For this reason we have launched our official Spotify playlist and we invite you to check it out and follow us there.
