Dear friend,

I am thankful for the county workers, including those in the Registrar of Voters office, who have worked diligently to ensure ballots from the March 3 election are being counted and that our democratic processes continue unhindered.

While it appears that I will be heading to a runoff election in November, I wanted to let you know that we will be postponing campaign related activities in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective immediately, we are shifting all of our focus and energy on providing relief for our community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we may be physically apart, we are still a community, and now more than ever we need to come together.

Here are some ways in which we are working to help our community during this time:
FOOD DISTRIBUTION
On Saturdays from 9am - 12pm, the South Sacramento Christian Center is working to provide families with weekly groceries. For seniors 65 and older we also have home delivery available.

Please call (916) 502-1219 to coordinate walkup and drive-thru pickup options. We will be practicing social distancing protocols as advised by public health officials. Food distribution will be available at 7710 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento CA 95823.

Given demand, for the time being this is being provided on a first-come first-served basis. For more information please click here.
CBO COLLABORATION
We have been working closely and in collaboration with other neighborhood organizations to target the needs of the most vulnerable in our community. A few of the community organizations providing relief and services during the pandemic include the following:

Jackie Rose and the Rose Family Foundation
Reimagine Mack Rd Foundation
Berry Accius and Voice of the Youth Sacramento

If you or someone you know are healthy, and not in an at-risk group, and would like to volunteer to help distribute food or assist in any other way, please contact us at (916) 502-1219, or reach out to one of the organizations listed above.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Here are several important resources you can visit to stay up to date on the current situation:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Fact Sheets
City of Sacramento Resources for Novel Coronavirus
County of Sacramento Resources for Novel Coronavirus
Sacramento City Unified School District Resources

I am grateful for the countless first responders, healthcare professionals, social workers, janitors, grocery store workers, and others who are working selflessly to ensure we are not only safe but have some semblance of normal life.

I will continue to provide updates as they become available on important programs and relief options for those most impacted by the current situation. I know that together, we will make it through the current crisis and come out stronger, healthier and more connected than before.

Sincerely,

Les Simmons
