Some Early Christmas Presents
It’s great news when you get confirmation that one of the funding bids you worked so hard to get comes back with a yes. It’s even better when you get three yes’s in the same week.
That happened last week. Tesco confirmed that we have been successful in our bid for £4000.00 to buy solar panel kit for on the barn roof. With the number of votes received, it would have been difficult to imagine how we wouldn’t get the money approved, but I don’t like to presume anything. Many thanks to all those who voted for us.
While basking in the joy of that news, I got another email from our secretary Gaynor telling me that we have been successful in getting a grant from West Lancashire Borough Council’s ‘Community Chest.’ Yes, the Community Chest is a real thing that lives off the Monopoly board. This one very generously opened up to give us £500.00 for irrigation equipment in the new polytunnel.
Finally, a couple of days later and we got news that a third funding bid we did to the Postcode Lottery of £2000 for drainage and water management on site was also approved. So, another great job by our Secretary Gaynor, who did a lot of work to get these funding bids.
Three funding bids approved in one week; we must finally be doing something right!
These three funding awards will be great for the farm, but we are not economically sustainable yet. Next season will critical in the future of the farm. We have new projects planned, but they will need the support of our customers, our members and some external funding bodies.
It’s The Power of the People
As part of a funding bid application we submitted recently, we did some work calculating volunteer hours. They averaged out at 120 hours per week over the last three months. That is 120 hours of people’s valuable time. And that’s just time on the field. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes away from the farm to make this project work. I am sat here at on a Sunday night writing this newsletter.
The money is significant to us, but it’s no good without the people. It’s the people that make this project what it is and continue to thrive.
Comments From Our Recent Survey
I want to thank all of you who responded to our recent questionnaire. The results were overwhelmingly positive and its great to know that people feel this way about us. We will be analysing the results and using them to help with future funding and improving what we do for the community.
Meanwhile, here are a few of quotes from the survey:
“The farm is AMAZING and to see what you have done with so little is fantastic. I would love to have more time to participate more! A super community, well done!”
“A fabulous place to be and grow together 💜”
“The farm is great for the community; I just hope local people are aware of all the great work which is going on under their noses.”
