In A Global Changing Political Landscape,

On November 30, the Beijing Center, Brookings-Tsinghua Center, and Caixin Video co-hosted a public event on "The Future of Global Governance and Climate action in a Changing Political Landscape." Participants included QI Ye, Director and Senior Fellow at Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy and Professor at School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, JIA Qingguo, Dean and Professor at School of International Studies of Peking University, SHI Yinhong, Professor at School of International Studies of Renmin University of China, and ZOU Ji, Deputy Director General of China's National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation. "Turn Waste into Treasure": Baotou Steel (Group) of China & Columbia University U.S Further Eco Partnership and Sign Joint-Venture LOI

In late December 2016, executives from China's Baotou Iron and Steel (Group) Co. visited the Columbia Engineering lab of Ah-Hyung (Alissa) Park and Xiaozhou (Sean) Zhou to see the operation of a prototype processing unit designed by Park and Zhou to re-purpose slag. Their goal is to turn wastes of steel and iron manufacturing into reusable materials through a chemical process that integrates the processes of mineral carbonation and rock weathering. They also hope to reduce overall carbon emissions by using industrially emitted carbon dioxide (CO2) as one of the reactants. Click here to read more.

After Presidential Election:
Will Trump Overturn American Society?
Discussion with Chinese Young Professionals

On December 18, the Beijing Center invited three Columbia alumni including Nan Lin, Ying Wang, MPA and MIA of SIPA, and Linnan Yang, MBA of CBS to talk about Trump's Presidency and its impact on the society of America and the economy of China. The changing of social classes, mobility of inter-generation, and inequality of income were also mentioned in the public talk. Yuanxin Liao attended as the moderator. Click here to know more.

Avant-garde Poetry with Messenger with Light

On December 23, the Beijing Center supported Professor Lyida H. Liu,  Wun Tsun Tam Professor in the Humanities and Director of Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University, to host a book launch for her new book Messenger with Light. Prominent Chinese poets, Bei Dao, Mang Ke, Huang Rui, Xu Xiao, Shi Baojia, E Fuming, Ouyang Jianghe, and Columbia University's adjunct research scholar Mr. Li Tuo joined the launch.

On December 24, the Beijing Center invited more than one hundred Columbia Alumni from fourteen Schools to attend the 2016 Christmas Alumni Reception. Alumni and parents from different cities of China enjoyed a joyful afternoon together. Click here to read more.

Say Hello to Africa in Globalization:
China-Africa-US Exchange Forum

On January 7, the Beijing Center, in partnership with Global Education Connection, hosted a "China-Africa-US Exchange Forum"  themed on encountering Africa in the globalization era. H.E. Xin Shunkang, former China Ambassador to Namibia and Zimbabwe, Professor Haifang Liu, Secretary General of African Studies Center at Peking University, and Mr. Chuanjin Chen, Director of China Development Bank and MD of Education Industrial Fund, delivered keynote speeches respectively at the forum.

Around 110 participants, including thirty Columbia University alumni, attended the forum. The forum also attracted more than forty overseas scholars and students from African countries, including students from Yenching Academy at Peking University. Click here to know more.

A Lively Illusion: The Visualization of the Grand Prospect Garden in the Eighteenth Century

On January 5, 8 and 9, the Beijing Center assisted Professor Wei Shang, Du Family Professor of Chinese Culture at Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University, to host a series of seminars in Beijing. The events were co-organized by Peking University, Tsinghua University, and China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) respectively.

On January 9, Du Family Professor of Chinese Culture, Professor Wei Shang delivered a public lecture titled "A Lively Illusion: The Visualization of the Grand Prospect Garden in the Eighteenth Century" at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). The lecture was moderated by Professor Xiaoxia Song, with plenty of CAFA students and Columbia University alumni joining the event. Click here to read more.


"Innovator's Night":
How an Idea Grow Into an Enterprise?

On January 12, Columbia Global Center | Beijing's "Innovator's Night" was co-hosted by Columbia University SIPA China Delegation. Three distinguished young innovators were invited from the fields of Media, Technology, and Internet Finance. Guests shared with the audience their unique entrepreneurial journeys, introduced China's business environment, and discussed China’s prospect in their fields of entrepreneurship.

2017 Columbia SIPA student delegation gained full support from Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and China-U.S Exchange Foundation. The Dean of SIPA, Professor Merit Janow, also sent her high regards towards the visit. Click here to know more.


Recover Art Origin: 2017 Columbia Global Centers | Beijing Yage New Year Concert

On January 15, the Beijing Center and the Genesis Beijing hosted the 2017 Yage New Year Concert. The leading tenor of the Yage group, Mr. FAN Jingma, along with musicians from China Philharmonic Orchestra and soprano ZHANG Linxiao and ZHANG Yi together brought an exceptional performance for more than two hundred audiences. 30 Columbia Alumni joined the event.

The Chinese tenor FAN Jingma, who received his Bel Canto training in China, Italy (with Carlo Bergonzi), and New York (with Franco Corelli and the Juilliard School of Music), is an internationally recognized opera singer, concert singer, and recital singer. Click here to know more.

On January 18, the Beijing Center hosted an online session about Columbia Law School Admission. Natalie R. Blazer, deputy director of Columbia Law School attended as the speaker to answer the questions raised by prospective students from China online.
