Time is running out to complete mandatory training


Thank you to the 60% of Victorian Fellows, Trainees and IMGs who have completed the e-learning module. This is a mandatory requirement for Fellow's CPD in 2017.
Log in now to complete the module - it only takes 45 minutes. Don't wait until Christmas.
Foundation Skills for Surgical Educators
Do you teach or train SET Trainees or supervise IMGs? The Foundation Skills for Surgical Educators (FSSE) Course is mandatory.

Operating with Respect Face to Face Course
The Operating with Respect Face to Face Course provides advanced training in recognising, managing and preventing discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment. The aim of this course is to strengthen patient safety by enabling participants to develop skills in respectful behaviour and practice strategies in responding to unacceptable behaviour.
The Commonwealth Department of Health has enabled RACS to offer Rural-based Surgical Supervisors or Clinical Assessors an opportunity to attend one of the scheduled 2017 OWR courses with full reimbursement of travel and accommodation (subject to certain expenditure limits).

John Buckingham Travelling Scholarship
Re-opened for applications

Due to available funding, the John Buckingham Travelling Scholarship has been re-opened for applications from RACS SET Trainees.
This scholarship was established to encourage international exchange of information concerning surgical science, practice, and education. It also aims to establish professional and academic collaborations and friendships amongst trainees. The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has agreed to sponsor one SET Trainee from RACS to attend the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress each year. In exchange, RACS will sponsor one ACS resident to attend the RACS Annual Scientific Congress. The recipient will attend the ACS Annual Clinical Congress on 21-25 October in Boston, USA, and is valued at $4000.

RACS Upgrades - Access changes
RACS Head Office, Melbourne

Upgrades to the front garden at the RACS Head Office building by the City of Melbourne will commence on 25 September and continue through to the end of November.
Key changes will be:
- Weatherproofing 'the goat track' (from the parking lot to the front driveway)
- New parking bays in the driveway to improve safety.
- New half-width boom-gate at the bottom of the driveway to stop vehicles going up the driveway the wrong way.
During the upgrade the main reception and front entrance will be closed, Entry will be from the Nicholson Street entrance.
Please note that due to these works car parking availability will be limited.

RACS Extends this Support Program to immediate family members of
Fellows, Trainees and IMGs

Medical Graduates and members of their immediate family or household can access the RACS Support Program (RACSSP)?
The program is provided by Converge International, a leading Employee Assistance Program provider, where members can access confidential support via counselling, coaching and advice on workplace, emotional and personal issues.
When you contact the RACSSP you always speak with a qualified mental health professional. Consultants are registered psychologists and counsellors, and have extensive experience in their specialty areas with a deep knowledge of, and experience in providing care to people who work in the healthcare sector.
Converge has also recently launched its EAP Connect app – download this today on your smartphone.
