Sunday School Teachers Meet TODAY

7th & 8th Confirmation Class Orientation
Wednesday August 28th will be the orientation evening for the 7th and 8th grade confirmation class. It will begin with a light dinner (taco bar) provided at 6:00 p.m. This is for the whole family to allow some time to get to know the other confirmation families. Following this, at 7:00 p.m., we will hand out materials (8th grade should have theirs from last year) and go over the program and expectations. This will take place in the Library and Classrooms across the hall. Also that night, the preschool will be having their Orientation in the Fellowship hall and ALL areas on that end of the building, FYI. Our first evening of study will begin on Wednesday September 4th at 7pm in the Sanctuary and conclude at 8:30pm.
Acolyte (5th – 8th grades) and Crucifer Training (9th – 12th grades)
Wednesday Nights at Advent
These are critical roles that assist with our Lord’s Divine Service! Training for these students will take place during Sunday school on Rally Day, September 8th. This is also the day of our church picnic. It will be important to be here because we have made a few changes from years past. We also want to be sure we have the proper size robes for all that will be assisting in the services. Please give this service the honor it is due and learn how to engage in these roles properly. Having been trained will make it much easier on you and relieve any stress you have related to serving! Thank you!
Starting Wednesday, September 4th, Advent will offer a mid-week evening prayer service followed by a variety of opportunities for youth and adults to deepen their faith. Confirmation classes for 7th & 8th graders, Adult Form of Faith Classes, Adult Bible Class and Senior High School Youth Nights will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. after a 7 p.m. service to "Pray the Catechism." The service will include singing the Hymn of the Day and a brief Homily. Please read more about it in the August Advent News newsletter.
Mission Opportunity - Grand Cayman Island
Advent’s Pastor Emeritus, Rev. John Fiene, will be serving Safe Harbour Lutheran Church of the Grand Cayman Island for a period of four months beginning August 25, 2019. To help Safe Harbour in its mission outreach, Pastor Fiene plans to assist charitable service organizations on the island by raising funds through pizza sales during Grand Cayman’s Pirate’s Week Festival (November 7 – 9th) https://www.piratesweekfestival.com If you would be interested in being part of a mission team to help in this witness and pizza production, please register your name on a sign-up sheet in the narthex.
The Advent Book Club has selected "Rules of Civility" by Amor Towles for its next read. They will meet on Thursday, September 5th (7 pm) at the home of Barb Ullman.
Rally Day – September 8
Advent’s Rally Day is a special day held at the end of summer to come together or “rally” for a common purpose – to renew our energy for worship and Sunday School! In addition to Sunday School teacher introductions and classroom assignments, it has often been combined with our annual picnic so we can enjoy food, fun and fellowship.

High School Youth Nights!
Do you have a desire to help with youth activities? On September 4th, we will begin having weekly gatherings on Wednesday evenings for our high school youth. It will be a time to get together for devotion/bible study and enjoy some relaxing fellowship. We will gather in the Sanctuary at 7 p.m. before going to the youth room. Done at 8:30! We need volunteers willing to be facilitators. Materials will be provided, and pastors Mackay and Grady will also be involved. Please contact Pastor Grady.
Video Tech Helpers Needed
We have been blessed to receive some gifts that will help make some technological improvements to our church. The goal is to enhance our teaching and reach those who may not be able to attend church on a regular basis. We have a quote for presentation screens in fellowship hall with a camera there, in the library and the sanctuary. We seek members who have experience in this area to build out a solution. If you are willing to help, please contact the office to let us know your interest. Thank you!

Call for Ushers
If you’ve ever thought about serving our congregation in some capacity, why not consider being on one of our usher teams? We need FOUR additional members to usher for the late service. If interested in serving, please contact the Advent office at 317.873.6318 or email@example.com. Thank you!
Large Format Bulletins
For those in the congregation who may be prefer a larger typeface to read, there are now four binders, located in back of the last row of center pews, which have today’s bulletin, propers, divine service and announcements provided in a larger font. If you use the binders, please re-place them after each service so others may use.
Lost & Found!
Looking for something? If you think you may have left a personal item at church, please check the Lost & Found box on the small table to the right of the sanctuary entrance. There are a few pairs of sunglasses, a baby doll, two umbrellas, a child's dump truck, reading glasses, a beaded bracelet and what looks to be a house key! Come claim your item today!
For those with hearing loss
REMINDER: Advent has a hearing assist system available in the narthex (on the credenza to the right as you enter the church). Each receiver has an over-the-ear speaker and two headphone jacks, which allows the device to be shared by a couple, if necessary. The receivers with an almost round button on the front pick up two channels. Channel "A" is for Fellowship Hall and "E" is for the Sanctuary. One receiver -- two locations. Just press the small button on the front to switch between them depending where you are. If you have questions, please see an usher or Pastor Grady.
