A wonderful way to spend a Sunday !
After a morning departure from the Essex area, our first stop will be London’s Southbank where there will be free time to enjoy the street artists, visit Gabriel’s Wharf, visit the London Aquarium or London Eye (entrance fees apply) .
We shall then board the Thames Clipper from the London Eye to Royal Greenwich . The journey time is approximately 40 minutes and en route, you will pass many of London’s famous landmarks.
Upon arrival in Greenwich, you can visit the National Maritime Museum, The Cutty Sark, (entrance fees apply), Greenwich’s World Famous craft market, quirky independent shops and purchase lunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants.
Mid afternoon, we shall make our way to the Old Royal Naval College where you can discover one of London’s most spectacular hidden gems – The Painted Hall. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, and decorated by Sir James Thornhill, the Painted Hall is known as the UK's own Sistine Chapel and is one of the most spectacular and important baroque interiors in Europe. In 1869 it became home to the Royal Naval College, an officers’ training academy. From 1937 to 1997 the Painted Hall functioned as a dining space for trainee officers of the Royal Navy.
This masterpiece only recently re-opened following an £8.5 million conservation project.
Explore the extraordinary space , wander the atmospheric grounds , marvel at the Old Royal Navel College’s stunning architecture and discover over 500 years of history, including a unique chance to see the Tudor foundations of Greenwich Palace which once stood on the same site. A multimedia guide (in several languages) is included in your admission ticket.
Late afternoon we shall re- join our coach for the return journey back to the Essex area.
