A note from CFG

We’re seeing a shift in our conversations as our marketing community is settling into a new normal. Confidence and satisfaction are replacing fear and uncertainty. Beginning May 6, STAYING 'n TOUCH will focus on changing our conversation. We will begin to offer insights and innovations that will define our new world. You'll continue to hear from your peers and our trusted experts. Meanwhile, we found this note from Jim Marous, banking thought-leader. We thought it might inspire you.

While nobody can be certain about what the post-coronavirus world will look like, there is one reality that has been proven without a doubt. Change can happen in an instant. The key is to imagine possible outcomes and set in motion those initiatives that can position your organization most advantageously. The following are most likely outcomes:
Being ‘digital’ is not optional.
Working remotely will become much more common
Innovation is an imperative
Personal development will protect people from unforeseen circumstances
Sustainability will be valued by consumers and shareholders

This week's anecdotes from your CFG colleagues
MARKETING ROLE
  • We’re not doing any acquisition marketing. Our marketing is focused on sharing information that will help clients manage their business during this crisis. 
  • We’re doing a tremendous amount of webinars, so content creation is critical. While marketing largely coordinates these efforts, we’ve been able to rely on our local teams throughout our global network to provide local events using local expertise in local languages. Topics span everything from digital business to growth drivers and economic updates. 
  • We’re helping our bankers assure clients of our financial health, how they can function in a ‘stay in place’ mandate, and understanding a new normal that we’re defining as we go!
 
Paycheck Protection Program (PPP): It’s calmed down a little, but our volume of  email has increased dramatically as we mail multiple times a day every day of the week to tens of thousands of customers with information on the program! (Of course this may pick up again with the new bill passed this week.)
 
WORKING
  • Like we heard in prior weeks…we’re working harder than ever – long hours, on video calls all day long, doing tasks that are different from our normal routine.
  • For some, it’s hard to be home. Extroverts like the people interaction, while introverts prefer the isolation when working. Many people like going to the office for the camaraderie and socialization! 
  • Leaders have recognized a cultural dynamic effecting the younger population whose careers are just budding. These up and comer’s can become territorial and emotional as they seek inclusion and attention. (Read our expert advise in this week’s newsletter on finding your own emotional well-being during times like this.) 
  • There will be anxiety when we’re able to return to the office, as people consider their own safety. 
GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING, too!
  • Some governance has been relaxed as the need for timely, quality research and insights is critical to our clients. Getting approvals has become a little easier. 
  • We’re modernizing how we go to market via our sales teams with a new approach to PowerPoints, podcasts and webcasts. 
  • Because of the need to be efficient right now, we’re finding that we’re able to operationalize much of what we do and create centralized access for our marketers and sales teams. We’re taking a more sophisticated approach to ‘digital marketing’ with new marketing automation, tracking and intelligence tools. 
  • Physical events have been canceled or postponed, so we can re-examine the importance of many events and figure out the right balance of in-person and virtual presence with our clients.
