CHILWORTH RIDING CLUB -  APRIL NEWSLETTER

Hi Members ...

So that's another month gone! Christmas just seems ages ago now, doesn't it?  But spring is finally here,  so let's play ponies!

This month Caroline reports on the Intermediate Dressage Qualifier at Crofton and Lottie reports on the Novice Show Jumping Championship at Grantham.

Don't forget it's our AGM this Friday 5th April at Paultons Cricket Pavillion, from 7.30pm.  Come along and join us for a cold buffet, open bar with subsidised drinks. We have a guest speaker; Anna Jennings, who will talk about common eye complaints in horses.

We will also be saying farewell to Maria Hoare, who is stepping down from the committee as Vice Chair.  This leaves a space on the board, so if you consider yourself a worthy contender to join our committee, we are looking for enthusiastic hard working people, come along on Friday and make yourself known to us.

On the 19th April 2019, Chilworth RC is hosting the Combined Training Qualifier at Crofton and the week before on the 14th April, we have the FoTH Eventer's Challenge at Moreton.  Good luck to all members taking part in these Qualifiers.

Don't forget you can start collecting points for helping (or providing family/friends to help) at one of our BRC /CRC Club Activities.  Every hour equates to one point.  Points will run annually. A prize will be given to the CRC member with most points earned for helping out this year.

Chilworth Riding Club at the Intermediate Winter Dressage Qualifier
Saturday 23rd March 2019
Report by Caroline Marsh – Team Manager

Hello readers.

It was a very long but thoroughly enjoyable day at Crofton for the recent Area 17 Winter Dressage qualifiers.  It was great to see new and returning members on the 2 teams that we put forward along with our two individual tests:

Chilworth Black
P13  - Sally Regan - Stroudwood Amelia
N28 – Louise Turner – Copenagh Lavalle
N34 – Julia Creasy – Stormy Diamond (=2nd Placing)
E42 – Alison Jenden - Totil Diamond Jubilee

Chilworth Gold
P13 – Cassie Penwarden – Rock Brun  (=6th placing)
N28 – Karen Morton – Marchwood Gem
N34 – Hannah Bakewell – Orion V1
E42 – Heleana Aylett - Decjusz

Individuals
N28 - Alison Branfoot-  Grace
M71 - Alison Jenden – Totil Diamond Jubilee

I arrived in time to declare our gorgeous riders and their steeds, with Sally the first to compete that morning for CRC, but alas I didn’t get to watch hers’ or the morning riders.   The very lovely Lauren offered to stand in for me as team manager, given that CRC had been allocated SCORING as one of our mandatory jobs.

So, knowing how complex that can be at an area qualifier, I decided, for my sins, to give it a go and not subject any of the other CRC volunteers to it.  Don’t tell anyone but I really enjoyed it….  Shhhhh!!

So, the morning tests provided some good scores for Sally, Alison and Karen – but just outside the placings, although Cassie had a fabulous score, much to her surprise, and gave her an individual equal 6th place in her arena.

Relieved of scoring duty just after lunch time to be reunited with my CRC friends out in the fresh air, and get ready to call some tests for our afternoon competitors.

Well they all did so well, but alas only one in the top 6 placings – our very own Julia Dixon on her lovely black mare  - achieving equal 2nd place in their arena.

Neither team was placed overall, but I am still so thrilled with the effort put in by our riders and their gorgeous steeds.  The enthusiasm, comradery and basic fun is something we have all come to expect from Chilworth, and we weren’t disappointed on this occasion either.

I would just like to say a big THANK YOU to our riders for coming out on Saturday and representing Chilworth.

I would also like to say a big THANK YOU to our nominated helpers for the day – Helen Dawes, who spent the morning stewarding, Marie Davies Grey who spent the morning on car parking duties and Lauren who covered for me.

Not forgetting John Morton who took over the car parking duties when Marie had finished her stint.  Without the helpers we are not able to compete so thank you all for volunteering.

Also Gill – thank you for spending the afternoon with me and for taking all those photos - that I am sure everyone will be thrilled with.

So that’s it from me folks, a great day, with great people and really looking forward to the rest of the area dressage competitions in 2019

Open Ridden Showing and Dressage Show -
Braishfield Manor - 4th May 2019

The date for our popular Ridden Showing and Dressage Show is Saturday 4th May.  The Schedule will be out as soon as it is finished and more details will follow.   This year we will include a WORKING HUNTER class.

We are really lucky to have the lovely and well respected Zoe Lodwidge Lawrence as our Showing Judge.  This is a brilliant opportunity to show your lovely ponies and horses off in a relaxed environment.

For those of you who want to either try out or practice your dressage on grass, we will be giving you the opportunity at this show - again more details will follow.

For now - put the date in your diary and we will see you there.

WINTER NOVICE SHOW JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ARENA UK GRANTHAM 30TH MARCH 2019

Report by Lottie Ramsay

After much preparation and excitement for the Chilworth Black team, it sadly wasn’t meant to be.  A few days before we were due to take part, Hayley became poorly and was unable to compete. As Jilly was travelling with Hayley we were down to just two team members; Louise & Marie.

Although gutted not to be in the team, Louise and Marie decided to embrace the moment and headed off to Grantham, to compete as Individuals.

Chilworth RC sponsored the entry fees and stabling and also made a contribution to the fuel for the competitors.

The journey up and back was smooth without too much traffic and the sun was shining.

Marie and Lou went for a little hack on arrival and reflected on being at such an amazing event  The stabling was excellent and the ponies settled well. We all stayed in a local hotel and had a really fun evening kicking back and soaking up the experience!

We had an early start on Saturday, to walk the show jumping course, which was so hugely impressive.

In the first course the jumps flowed nicely. The fences were really bright and technical.  However the second round was more technical and twisty. Both Louise on Immy and Marie on Nobby had great rounds, unfortunately a few unlucky poles were rolled, so they didn’t make the jump off.

We did however manage to leave the event at a reasonable time to endure the long trek home.

Overall it was a brilliant weekend, where the sun shone and memories were made which will never be forgotten.   A great time was had by all!
