The Office of Faculty Development and the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CETLA) are pleased to offer these additional training sessions available through ZOOM. These trainings will further your preparation for moving your courses online.  We encourage each member of the faculty to take advantage of these resources. Videos will be posted on the CETLA website and the Office of the Provost website.  If you have any questions, please email academicaffairs@howard.edu
 
BEST PRACTICES IN ONLINE LEARNING (OPTIONAL) -- THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2020 -- 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST - Dr. Helen Bond, Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, School of Education (Q&A AFTERWARDS)
This optional training will take place over Zoom and is designed to help faculty maintain high instructional continuity, while finishing the semester strong. We will begin with best practices on how to work effectively with students online and how to achieve teaching and learning outcomes in the online classroom. Faculty will be introduced to the specific review standards from the Quality Matters (QM) Higher Education (HE) Rubric. QM is a global organization that promotes and improves the quality of online education and student learning nationally and internationally. Colleges and universities throughout the world subscribe to the QM program and use the HE Rubric to improve course delivery and design. The QM Rubrics are based on research and best practices in online.

COLLOBORATE ULTRA AND BLACKBOARD GRADE CENTER (OPTIONAL) – FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2020, – 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  EST -- Mr. Carl Brown, M.Ed., Ed.S., Director of Academic Support Services, Howard University College of Dentistry 
This optional training will take place over Zoom and is designed to help faculty use Blackboard Grade Center and conduct real-time lectures using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. Blackboard Grade Center will automatically compute all student grades (from Blackboard and non-Blackboard sources), and show students, anytime and anywhere, how they are progressing in your course. Blackboard Collaborate is a powerful web-conferencing tool that is designed especially for virtual classrooms and is integrated into the Blackboard course management system. You will be able to conduct online lectures while your students participate via their laptops, tablets, or phones. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 
Part 1 (Blackboard Grade Center) 
• Access Entries in The Grade Center 
• Create Entries for Non-Blackboard Tests, Papers, Or Classwork 
• Modify Blackboard Gradebook Grades 
• Weigh and Compute Grades, Adding Exemptions When Needed 
• Send Missing Coursework Reminders 
 
Part 2 (Blackboard Collaborate Ultra) 
• Access Collaborate Via Blackboard 
• Record A Collaborate Session 
• Hold A "Real-Time" Classroom Discussion Using Voice and Video 
• Load PowerPoint Presentations in Blackboard
