At mamawolfe, we're dedicated to finding the extraordinary in the ordinary moments of life - at home, at work, and in the world around us.

Don't you just love October? In northern California where I live, we do have a bit of a 'fall' season - and this year we've already seen some rain. I've been digging in - literally and figuratively - this month. Teaching middle school means that the first couple of months are crucial for setting up for success, so I've been digging deep to build relationships and think carefully about how to be my best in the classroom every day. At home, digging in my garden has given me a chance to clean up from the summer and prepare for the beauty of next spring. I love the cycles of life - keeps things interesting!

On of my most popular posts of all time combines the most important elements of my life - mothering and teaching - where I talk about finding a way to balance everything. After reading Ariana Huffington's book Thrive, I'm learning that balance also means taking some time to do out of the 'ordinary' things, like when I tried out the Studio Movie Grill for a girl's night out showing of "Bridget Jones's Baby". RUN to your movie theater to see this film! And if you ever did the movie/dinner thing for a date night, you'll love this because it all happens right in your theater seat! I could totally see how it would be an amazing way for moms and dads with young kids to have a date night!

My October posts definitely had an education theme for most of the month. My story about Educating The Heart gave me a chance to talk about how important it is for teachers - and really, all adults - to take the time to listen and connect to the children in our lives. If we're thinking about kids first, they will learn to trust us and believe that we are there to help them. I think it's helpful for parents and educators to take a breath and remember what is really our goal when working with kids - for me, it's helping to create a kind, intelligent, curious human being. I hope you enjoy the read.

Definitely, my most audacious October post was "It's Time To Let Donald Trump Be The Poster Boy For Rape Culture". Have you had that moment yet during this election season when something just pushed you over the edge? For me, it was when we heard Trump's audio recording, and it reminded me of an incident last year when I witnessed one of my male students grab a female student inappropriately. In middle school, I watch kids try to figure out so many adult behaviors, and I just had to share my thoughts. Please let me know what you think about it. Huffington Post even published this one on their political blog!

My last post of October gave me a chance to share some communication tips for teachers and parents - I've always believed that proactive communication is the best, and I'm learning to leverage technology to help me out. Please take a moment to read "Teacher Tips To Communicate With Parents -And Vice Versa" and leave a comment with your favorite tip.

Wishing you all the best as we enter the holiday season, and remember to take a moment to enjoy those extraordinary, ordinary moments.

p.s. - if you're thinking ahead to November, you might enjoy these posts about family, gratitude, and paying it forward.
