Dear CEE Community,

Damian JonesThe Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Damian R. Jones as The Center for Early Education’s next Head of School, effective July 1, 2022.
Damian is a nationally recognized leader in education and highly regarded for his intellect, educational leadership, and outstanding character. The Board is excited by and impressed with Damian’s breadth and depth of educational experience, his remarkable leadership capabilities, and his inspirational passion for social justice for all people. We are convinced that Damian will help continue The Center’s legacy and maintain our school’s position as a national leader in early childhood and elementary education.
Damian currently serves as Head of School at the Edmund Burke School in Washington, D.C., where he has provided school-wide leadership for seven years. Some of his accomplishments range from strategic planning to managing and implementing curriculum change to building support for diversity at every level. Prior to Edmund Burke School, Damian spent more than ten years at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, Illinois which serves students from kindergarten through grade 12 as the Assistant Head of School where he acquired tremendous operational and leadership experience.
Damian started his educational journey as an English teacher. He has maintained his engagement and connections with the students in his respective school communities by guest reading in classrooms, performing in student productions, chaperoning community-building trips, teaching service learning, and advising students. More information about Damian can be found here.
Damian is married to Tasha Jackson-Jones, a Kindergarten teacher at the Lowell School. Tasha and Damian are proud parents of Etienne, a college freshman, and Lillian, who is a junior in high school. Both Damian and Tasha are excited to embark on a new chapter of their lives and look forward to spending more time with family members who are already in the Los Angeles area. Damian loves jazz music, and Tasha is an avid hiker.
The Board commends our Search Committee for their unwavering commitment to The Center’s mission as they embarked on this journey. The search process produced an outstanding array of high-caliber candidates, representing experienced and impressive educators from across the nation. The feedback and input from The Center community served as an ongoing benchmark for our search firm and for the Search Committee, both in terms of expressing our unique culture and articulating a view towards our hopes for the future. The Board thanks all of you who shared your valuable reflections and observations. More information regarding the search process can be found here. Additionally, we will hold an informal meeting next week via Zoom regarding the process for anyone who is interested.
As previously announced, Reveta Bowers has graciously accepted the Board’s request to remain Interim Head of School for the 2021-2022 school year. We thank Reveta for her steady vision and leadership and are fortunate for the continuity she will bring next year. To ensure a smooth transition, the Board has formed a Transition Committee that will support both Reveta and Damian and will organize several opportunities for Damian and The Center community to meet and engage prior to his official start date a year from now.
And lastly, deepest thanks to the faculty and staff for their boundless energy, steadfast commitment to this school, and deep care for and dedication to students and families. Our ability to draw exceptionally talented individuals, such as Damian, speaks to their outstanding work. Additionally, we are heartened that The Center’s mission and core values continue to be a beacon for wonderful educators and committed families alike.
Please join us in welcoming Damian, Tasha, Etienne, and Lillian to the CEE community as we look forward to them joining us starting next summer.
Respectfully yours,

The Board of Trustees
