Greetings Friend,
Not long ago a good friend recommended I read Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass. Kimmerer, trained as a botanist, is a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, and understands the natural world as a living presence. For her, writing is an act of reciprocity and a way to give back.

I feel the same way about painting. I'm grateful to be able to restore balance to my habitat here in Lincolnville. I'm in awe of the things that nature provides, from the purple fringe orchid that shows up in the boggy area down by the pond, to the accidental rain garden that's planted itself outside the studio. Even the cattails in the pond are rich in gifts for people and wildlife.

As a way of learning from the landscape, I've committed to one watercolor a week for the rest of the year. The first ones in the series were done in the studio, but as the weather improves I'll work more on site, documenting favorite places around my property.  I'll be posting them on Instagram and Facebook as I go along. They are all available for purchase, and through the month of April, I'll donate 10% of sales to the Natural Resources Council of Maine. I've been a supporter of NRCM since I moved to Maine, and am delighted to give something back to an organization that does so much to keep Maine's environment healthy.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with feedback and questions. I do my best to respond to every email. And if you've already seen, liked and commented on some of the paintings on Facebook and Instagram, stay tuned to see what the seasons bring. I appreciate your support!
