The University of Michigan Office of Research, MIDAS and DiDi are pleased to announce a call for proposals in the areas of machine learning; behavioral economics; operational research; and public transit optimization (additional details in attachment).
Key points:
Proposals are open to all faculty and research scientists.
Depending on project size and scope, DiDi generally expects to fund 6-8 one-year proposals at UM for ~$150,000 each. Proposals will be eligible for an additional 1-2 years of funding, pending the meeting of mutually agreed-upon milestones.
Pre-proposals should be 1-2 pages in length. They should address the same interest areas as outlined in the full proposal call (attached), summarizing your research goals and plan.
Pre-proposals should be submitted to midas-rfp@umich.edu for export control/regulatory pre-screening and coordination. Invited full proposals will be transmitted from MIDAS to DiDi; faculty/scientists should create a PAF in eResearch with their full proposals linked to the master agreement (17UFA-01740).
June 22: Funding decisions/announcements made by DiDi
~ June 22-23: Expect DiDi to visit campus for celebration/project kick off celebration
~ January 2018: UM-DiDi Research Symposium to be held in Ann Arbor or Beijing
There may be additional opportunities available in economics and intelligent transportation systems; in future years, we expect these opportunities to be announced jointly and on an annual basis.
If awarded, all proposals will be considered PAFs under the UM-DiDi Master Agreement (17-UFA01740) signed in January 2017. The parent funding account will be held by MIDAS, with sub-accounts to the departments/faculty recipients.
