E-Verify Warning Notice

Beginning today, February 22, 2017, when you create a Personnel Action Request (PAR) to appoint a faculty/staff/or temporary to a short-code that requires
E-Verification, the following message will appear:

Warning--Employees working on this shortcode ( xxxxxxx ) must have completed the eVerify process.

This notice seeks to improve U-M compliance with the federal requirement to
E-Verify any faculty/staff/temporary paid from a contract that has the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) E-Verify clause. This notice is one of many countermeasures developed by a multi-department "E-Verify Compliance Improvement Project Team."

It is intended to raise awareness and prompt action to ensure that the E-Verify process is completed within federally required timelines:

  • 3 days for new U-M hires who are paid from a contract that requires
    E-Verification;
  • 30 days for existing employees who are transferred on to a contract that requires E-Verification.

This warning notice is not intended to be a replacement for existing unit/department processes (such as monitoring of all contracts for the FAR E-Verify clause), but instead will serve as a reminder when E-Verify applies to a given short-code.

What Action is Required?

Individuals who create PAR transactions and who see this warning notice should contact those in their unit/department who coordinate E-Verify activities. Often this person(s) is in the unit/department's human resources office or contract administration office. The unit/department E-Verify contact person should then confirm if an employee has already E-Verified and/or take steps to get the employee E-Verified.

Additional Information

Please share this information with any in your unit/department who are involved in the processing of PAR transactions, coordinate E-Verify activities, or make hiring decisions regarding contracts.
