Debbie Talley appointed as Director of Sponsored Programs
The following email, announcing Debbie Talley's appointment as the Director of Sponsored Programs, was sent to the university's Finance Division yesterday by Nancy Hobbs, Interim Associate Vice President for Finance. We share a copy of it with you on her behalf.
Hello Everyone--
I'm pleased to let you know that Debbie Talley has been selected as Finance's new director of sponsored programs. Debbie, whose new appointment was effective November 1, has been serving as the interim director of sponsored programs since January and has done an outstanding job.
Debbie, who is a native of Ann Arbor and has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Eastern Michigan University, has been working in the accounting field for 30 years. She joined Finance nearly 20 years ago and has held a variety of positions in the department over the years, including senior accountant, accounting supervisor, and senior financial manager.
During her career in Finance, Debbie has had an integral role in a variety of important Finance and U-M initiatives, including implementing PeopleSoft, reorganizing Sponsored Programs to better serve its customers, working on the university's financial statements with the controller and external auditors, and streamlining financial processes to make them more efficient. She is well known and highly regarded throughout the university community for her accessibility, focus on customer service, and financial experience in higher ed.
Before becoming the interim director of sponsored programs last January, Debbie served as the Finance lead for the university's Shared Services Project Team for a year. Her accounting expertise along with her collaborative way of working with faculty and staff enabled Debbie to, among other things, standardize finance procedures and implement new technologies as part of the overall effort to launch U-M's new Shared Services Center.
I also want to thank Thom Madden, who was Debbie's predecessor as the director of sponsored programs, for his contributions to the department. As you probably recall, Thom became the senior project director for U-M's shared services initiative last January, after which Debbie graciously agreed to serve as the interim director of sponsored programs.
Please join me in congratulating Debbie on her new position!
Thank you,
Nancy Hobbs Interim Associate Vice President for Finance
