WALTERDALE THEATRE WELCOMES OUR NEW A.D.!

The board is delighted to introduce our next Artistic Director - Anne Marie Szucs.
Anne Marie has been actively involved in the community and independent theatre scene since moving to the Edmonton area in 2006. Her range of theatre activities is varied and include being; a director, actor, playwright, and board member. She is a keen supporter of local theatre and is the co-founder of the Finally Sauces production company.

Anne Marie's Walterdale credits include directing The Weir and Much Ado about Nothing; acting in Nine and Pieces, and her one-act Crack was a part of the 2012 Cradle to Stage readings. We look forward to the exciting seasons that Anne Marie will bring to Walterdale as well as her passion and experience that will undoubtedly help Walterdale's community continue to grow.

Deciding to be a gay celibate in New York City is an impossible challenge, but what else is a guy to do when the alternative is certain death? As fate would have it, just when he makes his choice to repress it than wrap it, his friends introduce him to the man of his dreams. Jeffrey needs to navigate into a possible lifelong relationship, under the cloud of HIV, to discover the difference between the pursuit of love and physical gratification.

PRODUCTION MANAGER NEEDED!

Are you looking for an opportunity to get involved with the Walterdale's upcoming production of the Tony Award winning classic, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Or have you ever had the desire to get into Production Management and were just waiting for the perfect opportunity?

Either way we can help! We are in the market for a Production Manager, and potentially also a Production Manager's Assistant for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which will run from April 8 to 18, 2015. Production Management is a great way to be involved in a production - you get to coordinate all of the production activities! Working hand-in-hand with the Director, Stage Manager and Designers you oversee the production from concept to finished product, keep track of the financials and keep track of the crew!

Sound scary? It isn't and we'll be with you all the way to provide support and guidance. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf examines the breakdown of the marriage of a middle-aged couple, Martha & George. Late one evening after a university faculty party, they receive an unwitting younger couple, Nick & Honey, as guests, & draw them into their bitter & frustrated relationship. Characters: Martha – Early 50’s, smart, defiant George – Mid – Late 40’s, a professor, Martha’s husband Nick – late 20s, early 30s, a young professor Honey – mid – late 20’s, Nick’s wife Please note: ages are relative & relational & never specifically mentioned in the script.

Auditions will comprise of the following:
Monologue – Maximum 3 min monologue from a play of the modern era

CALL-BACKS (if required):
Wednesday, January 14, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Walterdale Theatre

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, January 25. Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons, Tuesday & Thursday evenings, & will increase closer to performance dates.

All actors must be fully available from March 29 through April 18 for tech week & all performances.
Please bring any conflict dates you have to the audition.

Headshots & resumes are recommended but not required.

SUBMISSIONS FOR 2015-2016 - DEADLINE EXTENDED

Do you have an idea for a great show for Walterdale Theatre Associates to produce and that you have always wanted to direct? Now is the time to submit for the 2015-2016 season. Please submit the following materials:

A copy of the script (if you submit the original script, it will be returned to you – photocopies will not be).
A copy of your theatre résumé, highlighting your directorial experience both with Walterdale and in other theatrical settings.
A Directorial Proposal (your concept) – including the following:
- Why you think this would be a good show for Walterdale to produce.
- Casting requirements (note: this must not include casting considerations. All casts for Walterdale productions must be selected from auditions).
- What Production Team (if any) you would bring with you into the project. Production team members are not required for a submission and can be recruited at a later date with the assistance of Walterdale.
- ANY information that might affect budget (e.g. Chorus size for a musical or size of ensemble in a straight play, desire for period dress, rental of special equipment).
- Recent Production history within the Edmonton area. Please provide information including most recent production(s) in the Edmonton area noting year of production and the company that produced the piece.

What kinds of shows are we looking for? Walterdale must meet the needs of a variety of people. The season must collectively entertain, encourage and challenge our diverse audience. Possible options to consider (but not limited to):

A full-length Canadian script.
A musical.
Plays with good roles for both men and women, and with a variety of ages
Dramas, Comedies, Thrillers, Classics, etc…
A variety of topics and issues that many different people can relate to or learn from.

Applying directors are permitted to submit a maximum of 2 pieces for consideration for the season. Preference may be given to directors who did not direct a production in the most recent season.

WELCOME!

The board is delighted to Welcome Derek Clayton, our new administrator, to Walterdale. Derek has a varied background with his most recent role as the Festival Director of DEDfest. His experiences ranges from bookkeeping to grant writing to event planning and marketing on web/social media. He'll make a wonderful addition and will be able to help us grow the Administrator’s role. It's possible you've already met Derek as he started training in December under Sylvia, but if not, be sure to stop by and welcome him. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Derek!
