A Climate Justice Crash Course

As a founding member of the statewide coalition Maine Climate Action Now (MCAN), 350 Maine is part of its efforts to create a Climate Justice Crash Course for adults, youth, community groups, climate organizations, and schools. Additionally, there is a working group compiling a Climate Science Resource Library focused on providing an accessible resource on climate science in Maine for any age from elementary school through college students and adults. Through these initiatives, MCAN is answering the need for more understanding of what climate justice is and how it intersects with social, racial, environmental and economic justice here in Maine. This work has been funded by the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation. We look forward to keeping you posted on our progress and to sharing the Climate Justice Crash Course with you all.

CALLS TO ACTION!

Volunteer with Window Dressers!

WindowDressers coordinate teams of volunteers to build low-cost insulating window inserts, to make homes & businesses more energy efficient. Over 1/3 of the inserts they build go to low income households for no cost, and the inserts are made at fun, community-building, barn-raising style events across Maine.

350 Greater Portland worked with Sierra Club Maine and volunteered for a build in 2018 and 350 Maine for another in 2019 in South Portland. 350 Downeast has led two very successful builds in Machias.

WindowDressers now have a Community Build planned for the Portland area in November, but their lead volunteer just had to step back. They have a team of volunteers in place, and a slew of participants already lined up to get inserts & participate at the event, but they're searching for an individual or a group to help spearhead the effort. Please contact info@350maine.org if you are interested.

Take Action to Stop Line 3!

Line 3 is a proposed pipeline expansion to bring nearly a million barrels of tar sands per day from Alberta, Canada to Superior, Wisconsin. It would violate the treaty rights and disrupt the wild rice lakes of Anishinaabe Nations. (You can click the image above to learn more).

Want to get involved in the fight against Line 3? Send a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers’ Jamie Pinkham, urging for a full federal environmental impact statement. You can also take the ‘Pledge of Resistance’ with MN350. And check out Resist Line 3, Honor the Earth, and Giniw Collective to learn more, get involved, and donate to the frontlines.

Volunteer to collect signatures to get the COU on the ballot!

Our Power is now focusing on a push to get a consumer-owned utility on the ballot in November 2022, this will require collecting over 60,000 signatures!

You can sign up here to volunteer with Our Power and they will get you details and instructions in the fall! Thank you for your activism!
