JAMES RUSSELL SHERMAN: A Retrospective
James Russell Sherman studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and spent his early adult life in New York City before moving to Lamar, Colorado. One of his first paid commission was painting a Works Progress Administration mural for the Loveland Post Office. Sherman's subjects included cattle in landscape, cowboys, and human activity. Sherman also did paintings campaigning against drunk driving. He spent the last years of his life living in Denver's Capitol Hill where he did several paintings of his neighborhood. The exhibit continues through July in the O'Fallon Genealogy Room, Level 5 of the Denver Central Library.
