Wow Photo Wednesday: Kids of the Collection

Colorado Auto Racing: A Brief History

In the summer months...Colorado driving can be pure heaven. If you like driving faster than the law permits, the Centennial State has long offered dirt track speedways where gearheads can put pedal to metal at their leisure.

These speedways, many of which have long since passed into memory, are the subject of an enjoyable book by Dan Radbruch titled, Dirt Track Auto Racing 1919-1941, a Pictorial History. Read more.

Council for Western History and Genealogy

A group of enthusiastic Western history-loving friends have joined to form the Council for Western History and Genealogy to heighten the important work of the library. We invite you to join us as charter members of this new and exciting group. The Council is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the status of the Western History and Genealogy Department at the Denver Public Library as one of the world’s preeminent centers for research in Western Americana and related disciplines.

The Council for Western History and Genealogy is open to anyone interested in participating and donations to the Council are greatly appreciated. Funds raised through the Council are used to enhance collections, produce programs, digitize existing collections and for other ongoing departmental needs not covered by the Library’s general operating budget.

Charles Albi – Western History Volunteer Celebrates 15 Years at DPL

Historian Charles Albi celebrates 15 years of volunteering in the Western History and Genealogy Department. His reason at the time, on why he wanted to volunteer in our department, was that he had just retired from the Colorado Railroad Museum and needed someplace where he could use his railroading skills. Barbara Walton, our Accessions Specialist (and his neighbor and friend) jumped at the chance to use his unique knowledge and help with our massive railroad collections. We are so thankful for his time and his ability to help us answer any railroad related question.
