SPITZ NEWS

Hi there!

As the days get shorter and the winter ebbs closer, The Spitz is still here burning bright. Here are a few updates for you...

SPITZ @ HACKNEY MUSEUM

During half-term The Spitz will be showcasing music and words from Africa and beyond at the Hackney Museum, as part of their 'African Threads Hackney Style' exhibition.

From 11am 'till 1pm there will be stories, an African call and response by Drumhead, participatory music performance and much more, lead by our world class musicians and with the exhibition as an inspirational backdrop.

Special guests include actor Clint Dyer, storyteller Griot Chinyere and guitarist Victor from The Grange day care centre.

Bring the whole family! Percussion will be provided.
THANK YOU!

A big thank you to everyone who attended our showcase at the Kings Place Festival.

It was a wonderful and adventurous event which included bringing Cedric from a nursing home in New Cross Gate to perform his own poetry, set to music by Spitz musicians. It was the longest journey Cedric had made since his stroke ten years ago. When asked if the good feeling had lasted after the show he said: “A long time. A long time”.

Particular thanks go to The Network for Social Change who sponsored the event, to our musicians: Jay Phelps (trumpet), Jonathan Gee (vocals and keys), Ben Hazleton (bass), and our two elder performers: Victor (guitar) and Cedric (poetry), not to mention 3 year-old Zac on Ukulele!

DEPTFORD MISSION TEA DANCE

Earlier this month The Spitz provided the soundtrack to the Deptford Mission Tea Dance. The stage was shared with elders from the mission who performed poetry, sang songs and danced the afternoon away.

Spitz Musicians Arthur Lea (piano), Ben Hazleton (bass) and Brian Edwards (sax) were joined by 86 year-old singer Ted who led the band on two numbers.

POP-UP

Our time in the pop-up shop on 466 Kingsland Road, E8 4AE is nearing its end. The goodbye sale continues until October 31st; we are open Wednesdays - Saturdays.

We are delighted to have found a great new desk space at Curio Cabal from November.
Thanks for your continued support. 'Till next time...

Love,

The Spitz
