WELCOMING KAMA BURWELL TO THE TEAM

As an ecological designer, Kama draws upon 15 years of experience in environmental engineering, delivering sustainability education and teaching permaculture & terraquaculture.  Kama is heading up the Eco-Land arm of Greenbridge’s in-house services, to guide our lifestyle and rural clients on integrating sustainable principles into the planning & design of the infrastructure for their properties.

Kama specializes in the sustainable development of landscapes and watersheds; restoring springs & waterways, creating productive & beautiful landscapes to utilize water & wastewater productively.  She can guide clients through selecting the right waste water system for their specific situation and then provide a full set of designs & calculations to complete your council wastewater consent.

RECENT PROJECT PROFILE

Pictured below, is one of three Eco-Garden concepts  completed for a standard 840sqm New Plymouth section.  Danielle and Nick Diamond, with their two boys Ben and Max, are developing their property and asked our 'Eco-Garden' designer Bena, to guide them through the process of incorporating sustainable features into their plans.

It was important to the clients that the design added to the family's enjoyment of the outdoor living spaces, including lots of opportunities to grow food, increased resilience and also that future saleability of the property be considered.

5 TOP WATER SAVING TIPS FOR SUMMER

1.   Create garden beds & paths ‘on contour’ (across
the slope), or terrace your garden so that any rain-
water over the surface gets soaked in, reducing
      the need for watering.
2.   If possible avoid raised garden beds as they
require more water than beds built in the ground.
3.   Plant to habitat (choose where to plant, based on
      soil type and groundwater availability).
4.   Grow your veges in a close knit diamond form-
ation, to create a living mulch to protect bare earth.
5.   Mulch, mulch, mulch your garden and vege beds!

WHO DOES WHAT IN THE GREENBRIDGE TEAM

The next stage in this project, will be to define the final layout, including hardscaping, the overall infrastructure and select appropriate plantings (including fruit trees and rootstocks etc) - to really get down to the nitty-gritty of how sustainable their section will be!

"Nick and I have enjoyed learning about what's possible and have found Bena's ideas, drawings and advice useful in deciding what aspects we want to incorporate into our final design moving forward."
