Welcome to the Gosling Gazette - your new source of watershed information and entertainment!

In difficult times, it is more important than ever to keep our community connections strong. We at Ottawa Riverkeeper want to play our part, and we hope this revamped newsletter will help do that for the thousands of river-lovers like you in our watershed.
In the spirit of building our communities and pulling together, we are pleased to announce that we are joining forces with other great organisations across the region to share environmental content, activities, and inspiration. We look forward to this virtual gathering of tens of thousands of environmental enthusiasts like you, and we trust you will agree that we are stronger together!

Engagement Organizing Webinar with Velta Tomsons on Door Knocking and how it can Knock your Metrics out of the Park!

Time: 1:00-2:00 PM
Organization: Ecology Ottawa
Language: English
Cost: $20
Description: The Canadian environmental movement has traditionally had a strong “air campaign.” That is, we have been effective at high-level communications, report-writing, lobbying and social media campaigns. But have we created an echo chamber where we only talk to one another? How do we go from having good ideas to winning and sustaining political power?

To expand and diversify our movement, we must systematically engage with people who do not (yet) identify as environmentalists. In other words, to take your campaign and your organization to the next level, door-knocking and grassroots engagement techniques should be at the heart of your organizing efforts.

Winter Wildlife in the Watershed

While we may have to practice social distancing, that does not mean that we cannot enjoy nature responsibly! Thanks to our Youth Water Leader Owen Wilson for his blog “Winter Wildlife in the Ottawa River Watershed” that reminds us that #natureisnotcancelled.
Take a read to discover the diversity of fauna and flora that can be found all around our incredible region during the snowy months.

If you are feeling inspired by the words and photos, we would love to hear from you! Send us your favourite picture of a moment in our watershed with a few sentences telling us what made it special and we will roll them out in next week’s issue of the Gosling Gazette and on our social media! Remember to tell us what part of the watershed you are from!

Send your submissions to or reply to this email. We cannot wait to see them!
Each week we will feature a new interactive online experience for you and your family to enjoy! Learn about our watershed, protect your river, and have fun!

Road Salt Guessing Game

This week we have created an online interactive guessing game to quiz you on your knowledge of how much road salt to use on roadways, sidewalks, and more.

Plus, can you guess what the results of our testing for salt levels in local creeks were? Try and see how close you can get!
Get Guessing!
Finally, don’t forget to get some time outdoors this week. We can’t mingle with other people, but we can still get out and enjoy the beauty of the watershed.

Because you know what isn’t cancelled? NATURE!

Let us know how you’re enjoying nature while staying safe by tagging us and using #natureisnotcancelled on social media!
