Welcome to the eBulletin from the Research Design Service South West (RDS SW), keeping you updated with the latest news, events and communications from the RDS and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
NIHR Public Health Research Information Events
 
We are offering a number of events which offer an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the NIHR Public Health Research (PHR) programme. Registration to these events will be FREE and refreshments will be provided.

Senior PHR programme staff will be joined by RDS colleagues and a local PHR funding panel member to give a presentation followed by a Q&A session. Researchers currently developing, or considering developing, a proposal for submission to PHR for funding are invited to take advantage of a one to one session (subject to availability) with PHR programme and RDS staff to discuss their proposed study.

Events are being arranged in the following areas:
- Birmingham: 24 May 2017
- Bristol: 14 July 2017
- Newcastle: 23 November 2017
- Liverpool: TBC

Research Advice Clinics

- Are you a healthcare professional with a great idea for research in health or social care?

- Would you like some advice on developing a funding application?


Through May to July we will be holding research advice clinics at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford).

Come along for an informal chat about your research ideas with our advisers:

NIHR 'Improving Healthcare through Clinical Research' MOOC opens for registration
 
Are you new to research and interested in learning more about improving healthcare through clinical research?  If you are, sign up to the latest free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).

The ‘Improving Healthcare through Clinical Research’ MOOC was developed by educators from the University of Leeds and the NIHR to help people from all backgrounds to understand more about research, how we undertake it, why we do it, and the impact of clinical research.  This free online four week course will run for the fourth time from 22 May 2017.
 
The course covers:
  • Learning about the roles of different members of a research team
  • Hearing from people who have taken part in clinical research studies
  • The ethical and scientific principles that underpin the research process
  • Getting a better understanding of the challenges of conducting clinical research and the benefits to modern healthcare
