The NIHR application form is changing
The NIHR is launching a streamlined application process for researchers applying for funding. In response to wide user feedback, and as part of the NIHR’s continuous improvement culture, they are making applying to NIHR for funding as simple as possible whilst retaining their commitment to research excellence.

The streamlined, two-stage form is being rolled out across NIHR research and training programmes from Summer 2017.

New NIHR video

A new video has been released to explain who the NIHR is and what it does.

The video, which is less than one minute long, describes the NIHR ‘in a nutshell’ and features people from across the NIHR who are working towards improving the health and wealth of the nation through research.

INVOLVE Advisory Group Chair

There is currently an opportunity to apply for the exciting role of Chair of the INVOLVE Advisory Group. The (non- executive) Advisory Group guides and advises the team about goals for the INVOLVE Coordinating Centre, and the best methods for involving patients and the public in its work.

This role will be supported by the INVOLVE Director and the National Director for Patients and the Public in Research.

National Standards for Public Involvement in Research: Consultation 2017

Over the past year, NIHR has have developed and drafted a set of 6 core standards and indicators for public involvement in research. The draft standards are built on a comprehensive body of work initiated and carried out by others.

NIHR now invite and welcome the involvement of as wide a range of interested groups, organisations and individuals as possible, to help us review and improve the draft standards and indicators. Find out more.

NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellowship Programme

The KMR Fellowship is designed to build capacity within the fields of mobilising knowledge (that is, to support the more effective use of research knowledge), whilst simultaneously researching implementation processes and impacts.

Round six is now open and the closing date for applications is Thursday 14 September 2017. Read more.
Highlight Notice - NIHR Theme: Complex Health and Care Needs in Older People

NIHR welcomes proposals for clinical and applied health research into the evaluation of healthcare interventions, health services, social care or public health measures for older people with complex health and care needs.

For this highlight notice, complex needs are defined as the presence of more than one health or social care need (impacting on health) as well as a depth of need in terms of the severity of the conditions or intensity of the needs. Read more.
South West Clinical Academic Career Programme

Health Education England (HEE) and the NIHR have established an overarching Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) Programme for healthcare professionals, other than medics and dentists. This programme is intended to increase research capacity in the NHS in order to improve health and healthcare, by developing people with the potential and aspiration to become leading clinical academics and independent researchers in the future.

This year (2017/2018) a number of internships are being supported in the South West: The closing date for applications is 6 September 2017.
Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme

Commissioned workstream
The EME Programme is accepting applications to their commissioned workstream as follows: The closing date for applications is 1pm, 28 November 2017. 

Researcher-led workstream
The EME Programme is accepting outline applications to their researcher-led workstream (including complex health and care needs in older people). The closing date for applications is 1pm, 28 November 2017. Read more and apply.
