April 2017
Hello <<First Name>>,

As we write rain is pouring down. After Cyclone Oswald in 2013, MNC led the community work behind Get Ready Maleny, our local disaster management plan. MNC is listed as a secondary evacuation / recovery centre.
On a happier note, have you checked out the songs entered for Obi Art Prize Sing For Change? There are some talented local song writers around. Check it out for yourselves below.

EPICC member flies high

EPICC Maleny is a support group for people with disabilities (see Noticeboard below) and recently EPICC member Adrian Kooistra successfully realised one of his dream adventures – to jump from a plane and tandem skydive. Adrian suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy with very limited movement in his arms and legs.
Everyone in EPICC Maleny is thrilled for Adrian.  'Congratulations Adrian for your tenacity and courage in undertaking this adventure. We look forward to hearing about your next one.'... read the SCD press release

Help to stock our pantry!

Did you know that some organisations have a pantry box for food donations to the MNC Emergency Relief program? MNC is particularly grateful to Maleny Anglican Church for giving ongoing food donations in this way.
So if you or your organisation would like to donate food items, this month we would be especially grateful to receive donations of
• UHT 1l full cream milk
• UHT soy milk
• pasta sauce (including gluten free varieties)
You can also put food donations in the IGA donation box that goes to MNC, located in the IGA behind the kiosk.
MNC would like to give more fresh produce to people coming for emergency relief. So if you ever have too much of: pumpkins, potatoes; sweet potatoes, onions, spinach, tomatoes and beans, please think of us.

LETS office a welcome fixture

Maleny School needs mentors

Maleny Primary school is in need of more volunteers who are interested in being a mentor for individual students.  If you are interested please contact Debbie Price or the Chaplain Becky Francis at Maleny State School, phone 5499 8333.
One of the Centre's main functions is to support community members who find themselves in a crisis situation. Each month we would like to share one of their stories:
"I would not have survived without MNC"

"After an unlawful eviction and retention of my rental bond, MNC provided shelved food, food vouchers, veggies from the MNC garden, petrol vouchers, a gas cooker and spare gas cylinder, a swag, access to tea making and cooking facilities, second hand sheets and saucepans. MNC helped me with people contact, with some interactions developing into potential friendships. They also offered free counselling, dental assistance, legal advice, Centrelink assistance, financial counselling, weekly group lunches and yoga classes. Without the assistance of the Centre’s staff and volunteers, I would not have survived."

Recently the River School delivered 240 rolls of toilet paper – very excited students were proud to help MNC. Two years ago a student was part of the team serving at our community lunch, and wondered how much toilet paper MNC needed... This is the second time the School has delivered paper at our request. Thank you River School!

Report: Womens Space Maleny, 5 March

An annual event to raise funds for MNC, and an International Women's Day initiative. The MNC was transformed into a space for women to learn about and experience local services, and to share and connect with each other. Without exception, visitors gave the event very positive feedback. Thank you to all the local presenters, practitioners, musicians, workshop facilitators, the awesome Sweet Chilli Choir and Aunty Pam for her opening acknowledgement.
