Celebrating balanced parishes
In the recent St Peter Port parish election, Jenny Tasker was elected as Junior Constable, Mary McDermott was re-elected as a Douzenier and Denyse McGahy will join the Douzaine for the first time.
That means GY1 now has two female constables (Zoe Lihou is Senior Constable) and the remaining Douzeniers are an equal mix of women and men.
Following the election of Roisin Gauson and Alyson Keeling, Forest Douzaine is now made up of six women and six men.
Castel Douzaine increased its female representation to five out of 12. Joanne Hardill and Angela Gibson are the new additions.
Despite all this good news, the proportion of female Douzeniers across the island as a whole remains static at 33%. That's because five women stepped down this year and three of them were replaced by men in St Sampson, Vale and Torteval.
Congratulations to all of the successful candidates. We hope you love being at the heart of your community.

The time commitment is estimated as 20-25 days a year at a day rate of £350-450 (negotiable).
Full job spec.

Non-exec for Jersey Water
|
|
|
Jersey Water is recruiting two non-exec directors, one of whom could be based in Guernsey or elsewhere.
The company believes that people from different backgrounds bring perspectives and skills that create fresh ideas, thinking and approaches.
One of the non-execs will join the Audit Committee so needs strong financial awareness. The other needs to have expertise in either 'sustainability' or 'people, culture and organisational change'.
There are 8-10 board meetings a year. Plus two or three all-day strategy/board visits. Fees for non-execs are £22,000 per annum.
More information and application process.
Closing 16 December 2022

Jacinda and Sanna work together
|
|
|
There are few more inspirational political leaders than Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland.
Last week was the first time that a Finnish premier has ever paid an official visit to New Zealand. The headlines focused on a crass question from a journalist at the joint press conference in Auckland but the two leaders also discussed trade, the war in Ukraine and working together to support repressed women in other countries.
You've probably seen the short clip of their polite but firm dismissal of the question about their 'similar age' but the longer version below is well worth watching too to see two articulate professionals entirely in command of their brief:

Wednesday 7 December: Development Agency Board Recruitment event
Wednesday 14 December: States meeting
Wednesday 4 January: Politics Group Live - Tax Review - 7pm Cotils (book)
Tuesday 10 January: Politics Group Live - Tax Review - 7pm Zoom (book)
