Grumbacher Art Instructor
Newsletter November 2016

Recently we have received an influx of questions regarding instructor payment for classes.  It is very important to Chartpak that our instructors are paid correctly and that they have a complete understanding of their compensation.  Michaels has the authority regarding compensation, store policy and procedures for Grumbacher instructors performing services at their stores.

Chartpak’s arrangement with Michaels and its role in this program is to provide instructors from our Grumbacher community as well as develop content, certify new artists, and to pair certified Grumbacher instructors with Michaels store managers to consider for hire.

Please speak with your store’s management team at Michaels regarding all questions or concerns about issues involving payroll, compensation, and scheduling at the store level.  You can also reach out via email to to get help from a Michaels Education Specialist.

We hope that this information is helpful to you!

We're getting our ducks in a row before the New Year!
Need some ideas for fall/winter themed subjects?!
Look no further, we've got you covered!

  • a table or basket, with flowers, fruits, veggies, and whatever else you enjoy as part of the late fall harvest
  • pumpkins and/or gourds; in a basket, on the ground, on a cart, on stairs, on a table, on fence posts or a wall
  • animals - owls, deer, turkey, moose, bear, or whatever is local to you at this time of year
  • landscape with colorful trees, add in a river, lake, or a pond, or a barn with hay bales/rolls
  • a scarecrow in a pumpkin (or any kind of squash) patch
  • landscapes - snow covered trees, or houses/barns, or mountains, or all three in one piece, maybe a river, lake, or pond
  • snowmen
  • ice skaters on a frozen pond
  • people or a couple walking down a snowy street
  • winter flowers - like Amaryllis or paperwhites (Narcissus)
  • animals - wolves, owls, cows, deer, horses
  • horse drawn sleigh

Did you know?!

Did you know that our Grumbacher Goldenedge line of brushes work great with our Grumbacher Academy Acrylic paint line? Well, now you do!

You may have noticed that the Bristlette brushes have been discontinued at Michaels. Don't panic! Please encourage your class participants to use brushes from our Goldenedge line instead! Remember, our goal is stay "in-brand" whenever possible.

While these brushes are marketed as watercolor brushes, we use them with our acrylics on a very regular basis, and we absolutely love them! Substituting the Bristlette brushes is pretty easy with Goldenedge round and oval wash brushes! The shorter handles may be easier for people to control and use on a flat surface.

We will be updating our program supplies in 2017, we do not have any additional information to share about this at this time, but please be on the lookout for changes next year!
