Springtime break to the Isle of Wight Including a tour of the Island by coach and entrance to Osborne House
Friday 12th – Sunday 14th March 2021 £249 Per person (£50 deposit per person due now – balance due January 2021)
Measuring just 23 miles by 13 miles, the Isle of Wight is often referred to as a little slice of England.
What makes the Isle of Wight so different is that here you will find the best of Southern England’s landscape features condensed into an area of just 147 square miles – where you can find miles and miles of wild and beautiful coastlines, in a green heartland of tranquility . It’s little wonder so many choose to visit the Isle of Wight.
Looking at the Isle of Wight from a high vantage point on top of the downs, you will see a patchwork landscape of fields and woodland, stitched together by small country lanes, dotted with villages of stone and thatch, broken only occasionally by bustling towns, like Shanklin.
A morning departure from the Essex area making our way south to Portsmouth where there will be time to purchase lunch. We shall then catch the ferry to Fishbourne, arriving at our hotel in Sandown late afternoon. Settle into the hotel and enjoy a three course evening meal and meet you fellow travellers.
After breakfast we shall board the coach for a full day tour of the Island. Our first stop will be Godshill, a quintessentially English village with traditional tearooms and thatched cottages. We shall take you via Ventnor to Alum Bay to see the unusual multi-coloured cliffs and fine views of the Needles, the island’s famous landmark. Take in the breath taking scenery and maybe take the spectacular chairlift past amazing coloured sand cliffs ? (charges apply).
We shall continue along the south coast to the resort of Yarmouth with its delightful marina and to Cowes, the renowned yachting resort. We shall then make our way to Ryde, the island’s largest town with its elegant Esplanade, Victorian buildings and half mile long pier. Then its onto Bembridge with its pretty harbour and windmill before returning back to the hotel for our evening meal.
After breakfast, we shall make our way to Newport - the principal town located in the centre of the Island and often referred to as its capital. This historic town centres on two elegant squares with Georgian and Victorian architecture surrounding them, with the town’s quay a short distance away. Stroll through the vibrant town and enjoy independent shops and well-known yachting clothing stores, sit at a pavement café and watch the world go by as you enjoy a drink.
We shall then make our way to Osborne–the palatial former holiday home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. At the height of her reign, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert chose the Isle of Wight as their favourite holiday spot. Creating a palatial home at Osborne, the royal family spent their holidays visiting the Island’s attractions, towns and beauty spots. After our visit, we shall head back to Fishbourne for our return ferry back to Portsmouth and onwards to the Essex area.
