Whether you come to Kings Lynn for a relaxing weekend break, a Christmas shopping spree or include a visit to Sandringham Estate for the Illuminate Trail, you will be assured a great time !
The Hanseatic town of King’s Lynn was one of England’s most important ports from as early as the 12th century and its maritime past is still very much in evidence today. Fine old merchants’ houses stretch down to the river between cobbled lanes and the elegant Custom House overlooks the harbour. The town’s heritage is reflected in an amazing array of historic buildings and at two magnificent market places: Saturday Market Place, where St Margaret’s Church , designated as a Minster Church in 2011 by the Bishop of Norwich, is surrounded by splendid buildings and Tuesday Market Place, quite possibly one of England’s grandest squares.
King’s Lynn has over 400 Listed Buildings with the finest medieval architecture anywhere in the country for a town of its size. The town’s Hanseatic history and trading links with Europe can be discovered on the self-guided Hanse Trail. On Purfleet Quay is the splendid 1683 Custom House, described by Pevsner as 'one of the most perfect buildings ever built'.
In addition to the history surrounding you at every turn, the town has a great selection of popular high street shops, alongside independent retailers offering you plenty of opportunities for some unique Christmas gifts.
One of the most popular visitor attractions nearby is Sandringham. Why not book to go to Sandringham and visit “Illuminate” ? Nestled deep within Her Majesty's private Estate, awaits a spectacular, illuminated trail, full of wonder and intrigue, to delight and enthral your senses. As darkness descends, join the enchanting journey, as you weave a captivating light trail through the Country Park at Sandringham, the much loved rural retreat of Her Majesty.
