Paignton is one of the brightest jewels in the English Riviera’s crown. As you arrive in the seaside resort of Paignton, you are met with the welcoming sight of its long stretch of beautiful and easily accessible beachfront, promenade, traditional pier, colourful beach huts and green area. The seafront and town centre shops all within close proximity.
The nearby harbour is home to delightful restaurants and cafes and you’ll also find a mysterious hidden beach in the form of Fairy Cove. The beaches in Paignton stretch for miles and make for fantastic walks with breathtaking views or rockpool exploring !
Friday 30th April 2021
Morning departure from the Essex area as head South towards Paignton. A stop will be made en route at the delightful market town of Marlbororough, Wiltshire, where lunch can be purchased. With arcades, alleyways, coaching inns, half-timbered cottages and a church at each end of the high street — Marlborough still retains much of its original rustic charm.
We shall then head southwards towards our hotel in Paignton, Devon. After settling in, meet your fellow travellers and enjoy a three course evening meal and entertainment.
Saturday 1st May 2021
After breakfast, the day is yours at leisure to either explore the seaside town of Paignton or alternatively, take the optional full day trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company (charges apply). You will travel on the steam railway from Paignton to Kingswear, then cross the River Dart on the foot passenger ferry to Dartmouth. Here you will board one of the boats for a circular River Cruise (approximately 1 hour duration) around the river and estuary. The cruise takes you to the mouth of the river passing Kingswear & Dartmouth Castles, Dittisham village, Britannia Royal Naval College and Greenway House – home to the late Dame Agatha Christie.
Keep your eyes peeled for the varied wildlife that can be seen – Dolphins, Seals, Herons, Egrets, Buzzards and Kingsfisher if you're quick enough ! On your return to Dartmouth there'll be time to look around, go shopping and have some lunch before going back to Kingswear for your return steam train ride to Paignton.
This evening, enjoy a three course evening meal and entertainment at the hotel.
Sunday 2nd May 2021
After a leisurely breakfast, we shall depart the hotel and head by coach to Torquay, Babbacombe & the hidden gem of St Marychurch - with its delightful pedestrianised precinct and independently owned boutiques. It is one of the very oldest settlements in South Devon, and its two historic church towers dominate the Torquay skyline. Each town has its own individuality.
Enjoy a three course evening meal and entertainment at the hotel.
Monday 3rd May 2021
After a leisurely breakfast, we shall head to the harbour town of Brixham. Radiating a warmth of its own, Brixham nestles in the rugged cliffs at the southern end of the English Riviera.
Life in Brixham centres around its pretty harbour, where you can enjoy a drink and watch the day’s catch being brought in by the fishermen.
We shall then head home, making our through the Dartmoor National Park as we head back to Essex.
