News & Views | January 2015

Dear Friends:
We have gotten off to a great start in 2015.
On January 7, Guttman held its third All-College Faculty-Staff Retreat. Members of the College gathered to share ideas and discuss concerns. We learned so much to benefit our students and move the College forward. It is good that we are able to convene such forums where all faculty and staff have the opportunity to exchange ideas in an informal setting.
We will honor students from our inaugural class who will graduate after Fall I and II at an upcoming reception. 80 students from our first class (28%) graduated last August, and many of their classmates are on track to graduate in three years. We are thrilled to have already exceeded our three-year graduation goal of 35% for the inaugural class.
Looking beyond our campus and city, the College is piloting a new study abroad initiative. In December, ten continuing Guttman students embarked on cultural immersion travel to Berlin, Germany, as part of the Guttman Global Ambassadors (GGA) program. GGA was developed as a partnership with Gangway, a Berlin-based social work agency that assists young people from marginalized communities. Funding was provided from the College’s endowment as part of the major gift from the Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation. Our students represented the College admirably and gained an international perspective so vital in today’s global economy. We look forward to hearing about their experiences during a February 5 campus-wide event.
Our students’ achievements inspire us to create new programs to ensure their continued success.
